About this movie

Master martial arts moviemaker Liu Chia-liang wanted to make a movie about Chinese royalty’s relation to the common people. He accomplished it with one of the greatest kung-fu adventures ever made, incorporating at least three of the most brilliantly conceived and executed fight sequences ever caught on film. Wang Yu is the streetwise title character while the director’s adopted brother, Gordon Liu Chia-hui, plays an incognito prince who uses Ho as a dupe to try avoiding court intrigue. But any description of the plot cannot communicate the beauty and ingeniousness of Liu’s invention and vision. Combining laughs and thrills, the monumental director adds to his legend with a film that only gets more impressive with each successive viewing.

Classic kung-fu flik among those Saturday 3:00 pm movies. Aah the childhood memories when city life was a bit more simple before this cell phone era.

I wasn't sure about the movie but I was surprised that it was actually pretty good. I noticed the last review on it said it wasn't in good, but it was in English and didn't need subtitles, not that you needed it. The main two actors are very talented martial artists, which Gordon Liu is well known for 36th Chamber and Martial Club. The other is also accomplished and acted with Gordon in Challenge of the Masters and Shaolin Executioners. There are also several other martial artists well known in the Shaw Brother films, all of them display martial art and acrobatic skill. Both actors combine comedic as well as skillful martial art talent in the movie. I'm glad I picked it up for my library of movies.
