An Event Caught In Film Over the years Tom Hanks has perfected his craft to such a point that in almost every role that he now undertakes he is indistinguishable from the character that he is portrays. Apollo 13 not only stands as yet another example of the exceptional work of Tom Hanks - the film also happens to be an account of a historical event in mankind's journey into space.
Great Movie! I would've gave 5+ for more ground story Needed more facts involved from the ground (science & problem solving facts from ground control?) team & vendors explaining in brief detail how to fix.... because they made it.... & say how 2 fix... P.S.We need more movies like this.... and real NASA involved with with "Rich People" and or private investors supporting these types to answer fact finding Space living & chance possible atmosphere controlled moon occupation to remedy or curve population issue? 4-Big & Bright Futures! T.A.B.1./ Mr. Big T.
Incredible and Historical Not only does this movie have great actors and an incredible plot, but it's all based on historical events of Apollo 13 crew and their survival in nearly impossible circumstances. Watch it right now. You won't regret it! Plus...Tom Hanks is in it, so no brainer.
One of the best Space movies ever Okay so I set out on a space craze after getting into Kerbal Space Program and the likes, and I just wanted to see anything to do with the moon or space. I can't explain how perfect this movie was for me, and I recommend it to everyone who has the slightest interest in space. (So....everyone) Amazing movie.
Amazing They spent countless hours in the vomit comet while filming this so they could get the perfect zero gravity effects. Thanks to that and an amazing crew, this is one of the best and most realistic movies you'll ever see. Simply amazing.
This is, by far, my favorite movie. Many of the lines are straight from mission transcripts, all zero-g shots were filmed actually in zero-g, and it's a great movie to boot. I remember seeing it when it came out in theaters and I can say, without a doubt, that I am who I am today because of this movie.
Extraordinary and Remarkable!!! Many space movies like this always deserved awards for best visual effects. Its also amazing how the astronauts and everyone at mission control improvised to bring all three men home safe. I think this movie is an Oscar winner for best picture.
Outstanding performance, true to life story line You already know the outcome but you may not know the people. Based on actual events but a gripping character study none the less. I'm happy to grant poetic license in exchange for humanizing these heroes.
Great! What a great and suspenseful movie .. If you want to know the whole incredible story, read the book Ron Howard based this movie on: "Lost Moon" ... then you will truly understand why this was said to be NASA's Finest Hour
Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski, played by George Clooney. On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone - tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972, was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. This is actual footage captured by the astronauts on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it's the real reason we've never gone back to the moon.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.
Astronauts Charles Brubaker, John Walker, and Peter Willis (James Brolin, O.J. Simpson, and Sam Waterston, respectively) are hailed as heroes when they become the first men to be rocketed to Mars. Actually the space travelers are as phony as their mission controller, Dr. James Kelloway (Hal Holbrook); to avert a failure that might cost the space program its funding, the Mars-bound vessel has been sent up without a crew, while the helmeted astronauts sit on a movie soundstage, pretending to be in outer space for the benefit of the TV cameras. Unfortunately the Mars ship crashes on arrival, making the astronaut trio thoroughly expendable. Investigative reporter Robert Caulfield (Elliott Gould), who's smelled a rat all along, races against time to prevent NASA from "terminating" the hapless astronauts in order to cover up the conspiracy.
