Midwestern Quantum Research Laboratory, St. Louis: An experiment at the facility's particles accelerator goes terribly wrong, resulting in the formation of a Black Hole here on earth, and the death of its leading scientist, William Hauser. Physicist Eric Bryce is called in by co-worker and former love interest, Shannon Muir, to help resolve the situation.
