Director Coppola paints a chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, masterfully balancing the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged.
"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." "Hey, whaddya gonna do, nice college boy, eh? Didn't want to get mixed up in the Family business, huh? Now you wanna gun down a police captain. Why? Because he slapped ya in the face a little bit? Hah? What do you think this is the Army, where you shoot 'em a mile away? You've gotta get up close like this and - bada-BING! - you blow their brains all over your nice Ivy League suit. C'mere... [kisses Michael's head]"
You'll like this way more than the book... ...trust me. Don Corleone is excellent is the movie, not so much in the book, where he assumes his daughter gave the scum bag husband a reason to beat her. In this movie, however, he is a good man. He's the kind of man you want as an ally. And not just because of his power, but because he is trustworthy. He is also not a coddler...a famous early scene, where a man is crying, 'What will I do?' 'You can act LIKE A MAN!'...is a favorite of many.
The Greatest Film to Ever Grace Cinema This is my favorite movie of all time. The acting is as beautiful as the cinematics, and the characters are well developed and seemingly pulled right off the pages of the novel. The plot inspired many movies to come, and although the Godfather feel has been beaten to death, this film still manages to amaze me with its creation of a beautiful ambiance and the interactions of the characters in it. If you love the movie, then I highly suggest the book. It's even better!
One of the best movies ever made The aging crime boss Don Corleone, Marlon Brando, unintentionally passes the family business to his son Michael, played by the young Al Pacino. Everything in this movie is perfect and there is notuch left to say about this truly timeless classic.
One of the greatest movies of all time I rented The Godfather about a month ago, and I was awestruck watching it. It was an incredible story of the struggles of a mob family. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando were incredible, as were all of the other actors. An easy recommendation for anyone.
The Godfather Easily one of Coppola's best films. You don't see this kind of quality these days. And I love that Coppola's didn't rely on nudity or sex to make the movie "interesting." Also a very good book! Everyone should read it.
Definitely a good mafia movie While I don't think the Godfather is the greatest film ever made. It's definitely a great tense and gritty mafia movie with absolutely amazing performances all the way around.
Dramatic This movie is full of american history of an Italian mafia and a family relationship in a war with other mafia leaders. It is an amazing film with drama, romance, and historical fiction. I HIGHLY recommend it. WATCH IT AND LOVE IT
Marlon Brando...the ultimate family business...the best sicilian crime boss ever. "Don't ever go against the family, Freido..." The number one best classic mob/mobster movie of all time! This IS the best classic movie ever!
Mesmerizing!! This movie! Every time it comes on it is mesmerizing, this is just how well made of a film this is, It should have one more Oscars! If You value Family, this is the movie for You. Every Man should at least have watched this and part2 one time in Their lives, a must see!
One of the best movies ever made Story telling, acting, direction, cinematography. In every facet, this is one of the best movies to ever be on the silver screen. While there are many priceless scenes, the best is Michael's ascension to Don during the baptism of his nephew.
