Joined the Corps, as a High School Senior, just after this operation. Tracks with my memories fairly closely. The fault, in my view, was with the JCS on down, with what we call the 4 P's... Piss Poor Prior Planning... Not to say that Carter didn't share that burden, with the cutbacks and failure to provide the tools with which to execute the plan. Of course I say this with hindsight.
