Inspector Gereon Rath has transferred from Cologne to Berlin’s Vice Squad under Chief Inspector Bruno Wolter. Elsewhere, we meet secretary Charlotte Ritter who enjoys Berlin’s nightlife.

The police prepare themselves for the May Day protests, Charlotte helps Rath when he experiences his tremors. Meanwhile, the identity of Moka Efti singer Lukasz Nikoros is revealed, and the printer’s shop comes under attack.

Following the attack at the printer’s shop, Kardakow tries to find Svetlana. Elsewhere, Rath tries to glean information from Mutti, and Charlotte runs into her old friend Greta, who has fallen on hard times.

Kardakow accuses Svetlana of betraying the Red Fortress. Elsewhere, Rath and Wolter are assigned to prevent a demo at the Kottbusser Tor, with devastating consequences.

Kardakow makes a shocking discovery. Elsewhere, Charlotte is serious about pursuing a career in the police force, and Rath’s motivations for being in Berlin are revealed.

Greta and Charlotte accept Jänicke's invitation to the Wannsee, while Rath, who has yet to file his report on the events of 1st May, receives a surprise visitor.

Charlotte and Jänicke make a discovery at the printers. Elsewhere, Greta gains employment as a maid for Benda’s family.

Greta spends the day with Fritz at the Sacrow Lake, while Wolter and Rath celebrate their success, which takes a disturbing turn.
