The Fleischer Superman series of the 40s were ahead of their time. It's only fitting the other great DC hero should usher in a new era of quality and depth while harnessing similar Art-Deco visuals to create a modern masterpiece. The Batman Animated Series is perfect... the characters are faithful yet original, stories are layered and recognisable, the art is beyond anything of its time, or since. WB truly pulled out the stops. 'Heart of Ice' is the best 21 minutes of animation ever produced for TV.

As far as animation from the west is concerned, it doesn't get much better than this. It's as close to faultless as you can get (the only quibble being that these episodes don't have the original opening), especially when the entire season is $7. Stop reading and buy it now.

ALL THE EPISODES ARE THERE!! ....It is a little bit annoying that the episodes are listed in their production order (i.e. when the studio made each episode), rather than the broadcast order, which is how the show was intended to be seen. You can google the correct order on the batman fandom site and everything is hunky doory. The first season is supposed to have 65 episodes, so I get why they broke the seasons up how they did. You're looking at $28 for 85 episodes, not bad. I do agree with the other comments though, would be great if they kept the original opening.... c'mon that's our childhood your messing with!! :'( ...and if they change the order of episodes to broadcast order = amazing!
