Tensions reach a fever pitch between Marcie and her community when she defends rookie cop, Vince Hu, after a high-speed car chase leaves an upstanding member of her community, Lila, dead. What at first looks like a simple wrongful termination case, becomes a lot more complicated when local-lawyer activist Percy Lincoln enters the fray and files criminal charges on behalf of Lila’s family.

Marcie defends Chery Sylliboy, a young indigenous woman, accused of killing a white army cadet. The prosecution has offered Cheryl a deal requiring her to apologize, which she refuses. As Marcie preps for what will be her first jury trial, it becomes clear that winning hinges on selecting the right jurors.

Marcie’s previous client Willy MacIsaac comes back into her life when he’s accused of murdering his ex-wife Gloria. When Willy insists on pleading guilty, Marcie becomes suspicious – and uncovers inconsistencies with his story. Marcie becomes determined to find out the truth behind Gloria’s death, even if it’s the last thing Willy wants her to know.

Marcie defends a love-struck Tanya, a transgender grocery store employee who was set up by married boss, Lonnie, to take the fall for his seafood stealing operation. Marcie realizes that Tanya is not willing to defend herself because her feelings for Lonnie run too deep, even after she is physically attacked by Lonnie’s wife.

Marcie finds herself in the crosshairs of a gang war when she defends, Vi Bayley, a salon owner, accused of assaulting a gang member. Marcie’s defence strategy runs her afoul of gang leader Bragga, who warns her to back off or face the consequences.

Marcie represents Dani Ewing, a white woman accused of setting fires to homes in the historic black community of North Preston. While Dani professes her innocence, her erratic behaviour leads Marcie to have doubts.
