Exile

Journalist Tom Ronstadt returns to his childhood home in Lancashire after 18 years away, hoping to uncover the truth behind the incident that caused him to leave. However, his father Sam holds the key to understanding what happened - and in recent years, his memory has become depleted by the effects of Alzheimer's disease. As Tom struggles to work his way back into life with his family and former friends, he recalls a name from the past - and realises his father's secret could be far more serious than he imagined.

Tom combs through the local archives in search of more information about Metzler, and gets in touch with Sam's former assistant - only to discover she is far from willing to co-operate with his investigation. Frustrated, he takes his father on an outing in a bid to trigger old memories, but an incident leaves him fearing that his prying has attracted unwanted attention.

Tom struggles to cope as he gets closer to the truth - and as he finally begins to develop a picture of what really happened, he is stunned by a revelation that hits uncomfortably close to home. However, while he comes to terms with the secrets he has unearthed, a distraught Nancy begins to doubt whether she can handle life at home any longer.
