The Fosters seem like the average, close-knit family until the FBI raids their home to rescue a young girl named Kit Lanigan who was kidnapped, by patriarch Mel Foster, and forced to assume a new, fake identity - Beth Foster. Fifteen years later, Kit "Kick" Lanigan joins forces with FBI Frank Novak, the man who saved her on that fateful day and with whom she has remained in touch over the years, along with her friend James Finley, and Special Agents John Bishop and Maya Kennedy, in an effort to find a young girl who was kidnapped from her school in Hagerstown, MD. Much to Kick's displeasure, her mother, Paula, is a fixture on cable news and they can't seem to find common ground - an issue that has plagued them ever since Kick was found and returned to her rightful home. In spite of their seemingly contentious relationship, Kick and Bishop work well together, and along with the rest of the team, they will do whatever it takes to save those who need rescuing, even if it leads them right to danger's door.

Frank, Kick, Bishop and James are faced with multiple missing persons' cases in Seneca Hills, PA. This time, three female college students - Zoey Price, Amy Holt and Jenna Tucker - request rides through popular app, DestiNation, but they never make it home. In an effort to find and save the victims, and catch the perpetrator, Kick and Bishop pressure the owners of the app, Kyle Parrish and Dylan Bender, to hand over proprietary information, but Kick's intuition leads the group in a different direction. Meanwhile, Kick and Bishop slowly start developing a mutual respect for one another and they find out that they have more in common than they think. When Frank makes a significant discovery, it leads to a series of cross-examinations through which Kick and Bishop ultimately uncover the shocking truth of the missing women.

Frank's team is pulled into a troubling case in Brookhaven, RI, when Greg Kleckner's pregnant wife, Cathy, is abducted, in front of him and in broad daylight. The team identifies a person of interest, but quickly realizes that no one involved in this case is who they appear to be. Overwhelmed with painful memories on the 15th anniversary of her rescue, Kick makes a poor decision that comes back to haunt her. When Kick's mother, Paula, catches wind of her daughter's actions, she confronts Frank and comes up with a plan to help minimize the fallout. Later on, when the FBI has a big break in the case, Kick is reminded that it's not easy to escape one's past.

When a doting father, Eric Hale, is taken in Cincinnati, the team immediately gets to work and discovers that the entire family is missing. Bishop uncovers the details of her disappearance, which pinpoints the location where the teams' search should begin. Then Frank makes a suggestion that could ultimately make or break the case. Kick notices that this case seems to be taking an emotional toll on Frank, but she realizes the wound is much deeper than it appears. Just when the FBI starts getting traction, two more people turn up missing and the team is in a race against the clock to put together the pieces of what appears to be a tiger kidnapping.

Sara Moreland, the sister of famous pop star, Sabrina Moreland, is abducted after a sold-out concert in New York, and the team dives headfirst into the case. As Kennedy and James make headway on the case, Frank grows more concerned about Kick's well-being and questions whether he made the right decision by bringing her onto the task force. Meanwhile, Sabrina's "inner circle" is placed under scrutiny and the team uncovers some shocking secrets. The case comes down to the wire as the team engages in a high-octane chase to the finish line in hopes of rescuing Sara before it's too late. After an emotional end, Kick enters unfamiliar territory when she allows herself to open up to Noah... and her mother, Paula.

Gabriel Carter, a young boy from Ohio, is kidnapped from his home and the team learns that there have been a string of abductions in the area in recent months that could be related. Kick and Bishop are concerned when they discover disturbing details about Gabriel's religiously devout parents, Cal and Elizabeth. Frank tries to reason with Cal about a serious personal matter, but he ends up confronting a demon of his own. Once Kick and James are able to ID a possible suspect, they stumble upon a large network of illicit activity and realize that this case is much bigger than they initially thought. Noah, an old friend of Kick's, reemerges and she comes face to face with her past.

When David and Karen Crawford disappear from a remote campsite in the mountains, the FBI task force quickly jumps on the trail to hunt down the kidnapper. Just as things start heating up between Kick and Noah, Bishop runs into a familiar face and Kick senses a romantic undercurrent. Frank and Kennedy get wind of a couple of suspects who may have a motive to harm the Crawfords, and they wonder if this crime is linked to a past, unsolved case. Running out of time, Kick and Bishop search for clues in the forest and the team realizes they aren't dealing with an amateur, rather a skilled and dangerous predator who won't back down easily.

After Darren Hartzell drops off his son, Harrison, at basketball practice in Greenwich, CT, he is attacked in the parking lot and abducted. Frank alerts Kick that there has been an increase in activity within the underground trafficking network that Kick's abductor, Mel Foster, was allegedly running, and he wants to find out if Mel has attempted to make contact with her. James deals with an unexpected family matter and it brings back painful memories. Meanwhile, James stumbles across a live video feed of Darren, who appears to be in grave danger - he is being held hostage in a tank and forced to stand an online public trial, for the supposed accidental drowning of an old friend. The case turns more critical when the team discovers that every vote cast for or against the missing father prompts the water level in the tank to rise, thus deciding his fate. The task force must work frantically in order to find Darren's whereabouts before the trial clock runs out.

When Nancy Dillon discovers her daughter, Sam, has been kidnapped, she takes matters into her own hands bringing as much of the ransom demand as possible to the kidnappers in hopes of her daughter's safe return. But things don't go as planned. Sam's abductor takes off with the cash and keeps the girl. Frank's team immediately gets to work. Kick and Bishop follow a couple of leads that seem to be dead ends. A chat with Sam's best friend, Emily, reveals an online history with a man named Grant Holland. The team investigate him and discover he helps reunite Native American children with their biological parents - revealing Sam is adopted. Presuming that Sam may be yearning to find her birth father, the team embarks on a harrowing journey to uncover the truth about a man whom Sam believes is her dad. Just when Kick and Bishop think they've hit a road block, pieces of the puzzle start to fall in place, but it may be too little too late.

When Attorney Juliet Larkin gets abducted from her Chicago law office, Frank's task force quickly goes through the available evidence, but it doesn't leave them with many leads. Neil Pruitt continues prying into Kit's life, unbeknownst to her, stirring up more unwanted attention in the media. Kick and Bishop are surprised to find out that they're working the case alongside someone who has a deep, personal connection to Frank. Meanwhile, another woman, Maria Cruz, is confirmed missing, and Bishop and Kennedy take the lead on the new case. When the detectives review the surveillance footage, they learn that Maria was kidnapped right outside of her church, by the same kidnappers, linking the two cases. Once Kick discovers that Maria is a documented immigrant and one of Juliet's clients, the team uncovers the women may have an even more personal connection. Along the way, Kick finds out some shocking information that threatens to turn her world upside down... again.

An innocent man riding his bike through a Pittsburgh park is attacked and abducted in broad daylight, but the only eyewitness is a nearly blind, 90 year old woman. Kick confronts her mom about her recent revelation and Paula sheds some light on the truth about her father. Kick and Bishop catch a big break in the case and it hits close to home for the team. Old information and memories from the kidnapping network that took Kick years ago resurface, and it seems that a copycat network is starting to take root. To Frank's horror, Kit makes a shocking request in order to get more intel about the case, but it appears to have much bigger implications than anyone realizes.

A newly reformed Mel Foster befriends an ally in prison and then the unthinkable happens. Just when Kick is enjoying the company of Noah and his parents, she receives devastating news that threatens to derail her life, as she knows it. When someone close to Kick is abducted, the team is on high alert as they try to figure out their next move. Kick receives an important lead from an unlikely source, but chaos quickly ensues. In a surprising turn of events, Kick is forced to pursue the case alone and she finds herself walking into an extremely volatile situation.
