About this show

Based on the graphic novel from bestselling author Grant Morrison and artist Darick Robertson, "Happy!" follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni), a former cop turned hit-man living a depraved life of booze and murder. After a botched hit, Nick's life is irrevocably transformed by the sudden appearance of a tiny, imaginary and incessantly cheerful blue-winged horse named Happy (voiced by Patton Oswalt).

Basically, if Joseph Campbell had eaten some peyote while hanging out with Hunter S Thompson you'd have this kind of plot. Funny when you're least expecting it and varying shades of disturbing when you least expect it. The writer's room saved this from being another Grant Morrison "lesson in esotericism" masquerading as a story by actually following the general spine of the Hero's Journey. That is when they weren't taking cues from Pier Paolo Passolini. Now that the first season has given us some sort of grounding for this whackadoodle story universe I expect Season 2 to take more cues from things like "The Invisibles" or the "The Filth" if we're lucky. Go google "tulpa" after watching it to see what I'm referring to with regards to Morrison's esoteric philosophy.

Dark vicious violent humor. One of the best shows I 've watched in years. This series better stay going.

Great show, the comedy and the overall plot is amazing. Finally, something that isn't some sort of stupid unoriginal soap opera.
