'Into the Badlands' is a visually decadent martial-arts fantasy set in a post-apocalyptic southern America, where resources are controlled by a wealthy barony and the masses live in slavery to serve them. While the martial-arts action scenes take first place, the lavish costumes and film sets steal second, and together they make up for the flat characterization, outlandish coincidences, and old-hat storylines. The show has the humour and created-world novelty of a Joss Whedon production, but it lacks the dynamic dialogue of one. It also features an equal number of kick-ass female leads to its male leads, some of which wear stilettos while fighting, reflecting the fact that this show is truly meant to be a shamelessly style-over-substance indulgence. Steampunks, goths, cosplayers, and those with the imaginations to bridge the inconceivable story gaps will freaking love it!

Pretty much a Western adaptation of Wuxia with slightly less over-the-top kungfu and with the goofy comic relief taken out (be thankful for this). Having said that, if you've never watched an Wuxia series before the fighting will seem ridiculous to you. It's actually pretty toned down compared to a genuine Wuxia, and with less seizure-inducing magic kungfu lightning (again, be thankful). Would definitely recommend this show!

Wonderful blend of martial arts and post apocalyptic world genres that moves along at a steady pace. Characters are a great blend of comic book over the top with hints of grounded believably about them. Really looking for to season two with ten episodes!
