It's hot, sultry. The air is filled with electricity. One spark could set off the gangs in the inner-city neighbourhood of Lincoln Heights. The Sutton family moved here in order to take advantage of the police department's incentive program for cops willing to live in dangerous neighbourhoods they patrol in return for affordable home ownership. The family's continuing struggle of remaining in the new neighbourhood is highlighted by oldest daughter Cassie's inter-racial romance with Charles. Everyone knows where the gangs are headed – into a downward spiral. Will they take the neighbourhood with them or will the Sutton family's strong bond maintain hope and stability in these uncertain times?
