Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies

When Max is upset about all the things he can't do yet, Mama shows him how all animals gain independence at different paces, and that there's really no hurry. Karla, Max, Chip, Flip and Kip decide to form a music group. Bo, a little hesitant about joining the group, thinks he is incapable of making music. However, after watching some of Mama’s home movies, the kids learn a few natural rhythms and soon the Savanna Six is jamming to the sound of their own tunes.

Karla discovers a perfect gift for Mama. All of the kids realize that in order to get the gift, they're going to have to work together. Karla's mother is having a new foal — a development Karla isn’t too sure about. However, a couple of Mama’s movies show Karla the fun and excitement of a new sibling, as well as how she can help.

While playing a game of hide-and-go-seek, Karla finds herself "too easy to find" (those darn stripes!). Mama exposes the kids to the wonderful world of animal camouflage. Max discovers his "danger call" (trumpeting with his trunk), and is so excited that he "cries wolf" a few too many times. Mama (with the help of her movies) shows Max and the others how animals communicate messages both important and innocuous.

When a visiting friend of Karla's (Keisha the wombat) turns out to be a night owl, Karla, Bo and Max are exhausted trying to keep up. They're convinced Keisha doesn't sleep! Mama shows them that all animals need sleep to survive and when she finds out that Keisha is a nocturnal wombat, she shows them how some animals sleep during the day. After Max gets stuck between two trees during a game of Follow-The-Leader, he is mildly teased about being "big and round" by Bo. Max's feelings get hurt. Mama decides it's time to show some movies about how — and why — animals come in all different shapes and sizes.

While playing out on the savanna, Max, Bo and Karla discover two young bird brothers (Dib and Dab) who appear to be lost and not so good at communicating. So with the help of Mama's movies, the children learn the value of a home and the love that surrounds it. In the end, the movies eventually reveal the home of Dib and Dab. When Max gets a cold and a trip to a special place has to be put off, Mama prescribes rest and plenty of fluids. Max is upset, but Mama shows him that everybody — yes, even animals — gets sick and has to do what is necessary to recover. Sometimes they even take their own kind of "medicine."

Bo, Karla and Max can't decide on what game to play — they each have a favorite of their own. Mama’s home movies show them that every animal likes to play differently whether it is swinging, running or gnawing. As a result, the children understand that each of their favorite games actually helps them practice skills they will use later in life. Bo, it seems, has lost his favorite feather…or more accurately, someone seems to have taken it! Mama and the kids go on a mission to solve the mystery of the missing feather.

Mama shows the kids — through her movies — there are a lot of different "tails to tell" in the animal kingdom. Every tail, however, is unique and special — just like the animal it’s attached to. While playing in the bush, Max, Bo, and Karla stumble upon a giant footprint and go running back to Mama. Mama is curious, and together they discover — by looking at movies of various animals and their tracks — that the print they saw wasn't left by any animal walking in the savanna today but, instead, was left by an impressive remnant of the distant past.
