Despite being in the grip of an all-consuming heroin addiction, Patrick flies from London to New York to collect his father’s ashes. Assuring his friends that he will detox during the trip, Patrick indulges in a cocktail of drugs and alcohol in an attempt to supress his past.

Based on the novels by Edward St Aubyn, Benedict Cumberbatch gives a sparkling performance as Patrick Melrose, a troubled member of the English upper class who tries to make sense of his life following the death of his father. The show follows Patrick’s life from this childhood in the South of France in the 1960s, to his adult life in New York and London. Also stars Hugo Weaving and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
