Tales of the City

When Clevelander Mary Ann Singleton visits her friend Connie in San Francisco, she decides to move to the city permanently. Her apartment search ends at 28 Barbary Lane, home to bohemian landlady Anna Madrigal and new friend Mona Ramsey.

Mary Ann’s affair with Beauchamp heats up as DeDe’s relationship with her husband cools. While Brain sleeps around, Michael “Mouse” Tolliver searches for Mr. Right—and bumps into dreamy gynecologist Jon Fielden at the roller rink. Anna and Edgar bond during a walk on the beach.

Mary Ann volunteers at a suicide hotline and meets her odd upstairs neighbor, Norman. DeDe confronts Mary Ann and then checks in to a fat farm. Mouse enters the Mr. Endup contest but jeopardizes his chances with Jon. Edgar confesses his troubles to Anna, and Mona gets a call from D’orothea.

After a tragedy at the suicide hotline, Mary Ann turns to Brian for comfort and a joint. DeDe receives news that threatens her reconciliation with Beauchamp, while Mona’s reunion with D’orothea takes off. Edgar romances Anna, and Mouse’s parents come to visit.

DeDe broaches the idea of having a baby with Beauchamp. Brian and Mouse hang out together, while Jon defends Mouse to his friends and later gets a surprise at the bathhouse. Mary Ann celebrates Norman’s birthday with him, and Anna reveals her secret to Edgar.

Anna throws a Christmas party for her Barbary Lane family, and Mona invites D’orothea’s parents to dinner. Mary Ann uncovers the truth about Norman, and Edgar says goodbye to Anna and DeDe.
