About this show

From writer/creator Tim Kring (Heroes) and executive producers Peter Chernin (Terra Nova) and Katherine Pope (Terra Nova) comes Touch, a preternatural drama in which science and spirituality intersect with the hopeful premise that we are all interconnected, tied in invisible ways to those whose lives we are destined to alter and impact.

Martin Bohm (Kiefer Sutherland), a widower and single father, is haunted by an inability to connect to his mute, severely autistic 11-year-old son, Jake. But everything changes when Martin discovers that Jake possesses a gift of staggering genius - the ability to see things that no one else can, the patterns that connect everything. Jake is indeed communicating after all. But it's not with words, it's with numbers. Martin meets Arthur Teller (Danny Glover), a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers. Now it's up to Martin to decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to the cast of characters whose lives they affect.

As the mother of an autistic child I have been subjected to an insane amount of ignorance from my government as well as family/friends when dealing with my daughter. Like Jake, my daughter is also non-verbal. It is through his character that I have been given hope with her future. She is only 2 and has no delay in cognition so I know the potential for her to communicate one day is there. If Jake who is a non-verbal 11 year old has found a way of communicating, so can she. In the second season of Touch I have seen faint smiles on Jakes face. That shows promise. I am very happy to see that Martin has not given up on Jake and is willing to indulge (if you will) on Jakes number theory. Many people as we have watched have dismissed this act of life-altering communication but Mr. Boehm has yet to give up. I like seeing the ratings do so well. It would be tragic if this show were taken off of the air.

This entire series is awesome! I've seen the entire series, as far as I know all of it any way, half a dozen times and am about to begin again. At 74, I think it's opened an area of education I've totally missed. My all time favorite episode is "Music of the Sphereses." That episode could be the catalyst for another entire series! Great family discussion starter no matter the mean individual age. Hope y'all enjoy it, too.
