When he learns that his mother is dying, self-destructive musician Lucky packs up his battered old piano for a 4,000-mile road trip across Australia to be with his estranged family.

Lucky struggles without his anxiety medication. Meanwhile, Meg picks a fight with bikers at the pub while waiting for a chemist to open.

Meg is beside herself when she loses all of her's and Lucky's money. To make matters worse, they then run out of petrol.

Meg and Lucky join a campground party, but the night takes a horrible turn when Lucky discovers a suicide note.

Lucky contemplates giving up when Meg runs away with the ute and the piano, but a potentially poisonous snakebite makes him change his mind.

Lucky decides to transform his attitude and his appearance, but it's not long before some devastating news sends him spiralling into despair.
