Restaurant owner and private detective Pearl finds a friend’s drowned body. The police, led by newcomer DCI McGuire, think it’s an accident, but Pearl suspects foul play.

Mike investigates the death of a diabetic estate agent force-fed marmalade. Meanwhile, a woman hires Pearl to look into a large sum of cash left in her mailbox.

When a retired DCI is shot dead during an English Civil War reenactment, Mike suspects the victim’s wife, but she hires Pearl to find out if someone is targeting her.

As Christmas approaches, Pearl helps a woman who received a note claiming her husband didn’t die by suicide. Pearl connects the case to a counseling group and a drowning.

Pearl investigates whether a boat’s foundering with a mother and daughter on board was an accident or if they were targeted, while Mike tries to enjoy his time off.

A 30-year-old skeleton washes up on the shore, and the victim has a very personal connection to Pearl. Pearl’s budding romance with Mike is threatened when he identifies a suspect close to home.
