Samurai Jack

Samurai Jack is a show that is the pinnacle of what animation is. The show uses visuals, sound, and your own emotions to draw you into the story every episode. It has in its final season matured to bring you an MA rating that does not destroy the morals behind it but rather engages what challenges Jack has to face when flung into the future. I am glad to say that this show deserves so much more than a 5 star rating but rather my heart. Thank you for taking your time to read this and I insist you enjoy and fall in love with this series immediately.

People up in arms about the differences between the old SJ and Season 5. It was told ahead of time that it would be much darker and more mature. That's why it's on Adult Swim and not Saturday morning. It's not a cartoon aimed at new children, it's aimed at the original watchers; aka mature people. A final, closing season. I like the changes. It's not so episodic and more plot formed. I feel like things are actually happening, we'll get somewhere, get closure, get a ship [all hail the ships]. Animation is better, fighting is better, story is better [there actually is one], I just find this season in general better. Sure, it's got a lot of cliche things in it, but I can't think of a cartoon or anime that doesn't. Overal Samurai Jack is just an amazing show with a strong return after its hiatus. I can't wait to see where they take us the last few episodes.

*spoilers* So.... I'm not going to lie on this, but i didn't watch most of the original Samurai Jack back in the day. But after hearing some people talk of this new season and watching some Trailers, i decided to go for it. And i can now say i am honestly hooked and a fan. The visuals and art direction of this new season is beyond what i expected of a cartoon, even just watching screen from scene of just shots of scenery is so incredible. The character development of Jack, who is almost defeated, broken and lost, is intriguing as we see flashbacks of his past and an internal conflict of himself literally talking to himself. A new enemy, an all female ansamble called the Cult of Aku, is deadly and ferocious, hunting relentlessly Jack to the edges of the land and the breaking point of his mind, body and spirit. Now, this new season is bloody and there IS gore in this new version of Samurai Jack... some of which took me a bit by surprise. But it is appropriate for this season and the gritter, much much darker character and story development of our main character as well as his enemies.... and personally i think it works well for such reasons. I would highly recommended this show, and especially this season to anyone who wants to or is interested in seeing a thrilling, action packed, yet artistically beautiful, dark and gritty cartoon. 5 stars.
