Happy Endings

Penny buys her first home, an "amah-zing" condo complete with a wine fridge and Italian marble. But will the new home signal the "Year of Penny" and turn her life around? And, on the year anniversary of their almost-marriage, Jane encourages Alex and Dave to finally be honest with each other: it turns out to be not the best of ideas.

Alex's new T-shirts intended for children end up being a hit with teenagers; Jane searches for the child she believes was conceived from an egg she donated years ago.

Penny's perpetually optimistic mom, Dana (Emmy-winner Megan Mullally), is in town for a singing gig at a boat show. Her enthusiasm inspires the gang, but when Penny finds out she's hiding some less-than-happy news, she decides it's time to give mom a reality check. - 2011 ABC Studios

Jane tries to help her friends visualize the path to their dreams; Brad has a hard time relating to his boss; Dave is afraid to introduce his new girlfriend to the gang.

While Brad and Jane are house-sitting in the suburbs, the rest of the gang attends a warehouse party.

Brad lies and says he has to go out of town for work when Jane's former sorority sister visits; Dave and Max make a commercial to promote the food truck.

Alex offers to design Jane a dress for her charity event; Penny helps Max babysit; Dave and Brad realize their new friendship with the mailman isn't all it was cracked up to be.

Angie (guest star Riki Lindhome), Max's high school girlfriend whom he dated before he figured out he was gay, moves back to town, and her arrival affects everyone: Penny is jealous of her (and then goes overboard befriending her) and Alex develops her odd crush on Max. But the strangest reaction of all is from Max, who declares a "code war" when Dave and Angie date. When Jane finds out Brad has a "work wife," she decides to get herself a "work husband" and sets her sights on the slightly unhinged head of human resources (guest star Hayes MacArthur). - 2011 ABC Studios

Desperate to earn money, Max agrees to play Santa at Penny's charity event; Jane tries to reclaim money she and Brad saved for their vacation after she accidentally gives it to the housekeeper.

Dave gets bullied at the gym and Alex teaches him to fight back; residents of the condo challenge Jane for her job as president of the homeowner's association.

Dave has an odd reaction when his shrink (guest star Ken Marino) starts dating Penny; Jane and Max fight over ownership of a sweater and end up in another one of their strange competitions; whoever is "less vain" gets to keep the sweater, and the challenge is to see who can wear a horribly unflattering outfit the longest; Jane urges Brad and Alex to try and "bond," but it's awkward - until they discover their mutual love of romantic comedies. - 2011 ABC Studios

Penny tries to change the slacker (Ryan Hansen) she is dating to suit her needs; Brad starts acting the way he did in college; Alex and Max try to convince Dave to give up V-neck shirts.

The road to romance is rocky for the gang, as Penny has a new boyfriend she wants to dump; Dave is afraid his new girlfriend is about to dump him; Alex, an expert on all things Valentine's, goes looking for a party in the sketchy part of town; and Brad's hopes for a perfect night out for Jane are dashed when a dental appointment goes terribly wrong. But they don't have anything on Max, who picks up a couple with his limo only to find that one of the passengers is Grant (guest star James Wolk), the boyfriend he broke up with a year ago - on Valentine's Day. - 2011 ABC Studios

Dave's father (Michael McKean) comes to town with his new girlfriend -- Penny's mother (Megan Mullally); Alex adopts a parrot, and becomes convinced that a Chinese restaurant is a front for a brothel.

Max wonders if he is good enough for his boyfriend, Grant (James Wolk); Dave tries to prove that he is cooler than Grant.

Some people wait for the groundhog to signal the end of winter. Instead, the friends wait for Brad and Jane's annual "spring smackdown" - their yearly blowout of a domestic squabble, to let them know when Max will come out of hibernation and when winter will end. - 2011 ABC Studios

Dave gets a liquor license for his food truck, making it a new hot spot; the gang avoids Dave because his signature drink gives them sex dreams about him.

A panicked Alex enlists Jane's help in convincing Dave that something he's certain happened never did, but will they succeed? Penny and Max are determined to finally beat an annoyingly perfect couple (Morgan Walsh as Julie, Brice Williams as Justin) in the annual Rosalita's Run and Scavenger Hunt. - 2011 ABC Studios

So many bad things have happened every time the friends celebrate Penny's birthday, they're wondering if her special day might be cursed. This time, they they set out on the almost-impossible task of finding a restaurant where none of them has been banned or where someone won't run into an ex. Mikaela Hoover reprises the role of Jackie, Dave's underage girlfriend. - 2011 ABC Studios

What starts out as a white lie on Penny's part to avoid an annoying childhood friend (guest star Mary Elizabeth Ellis, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") snowballs out of control as the whole gang is caught up: Jane fakes a pregnancy (complete with fake baby shower), Dave pretends he's terminally ill and Alex fakes a change in sexual orientation. Max and Dave's lonely landlord (guest star Ben Falcone, "Bridesmaids"), jealous of their active love lives, looks for ways to evict them, until he takes a shine to Alex. - 2011 ABC Studios

When Alex signs the gang up to compete in a kickball tournament, she realizes running a team of misfits is not an easy task. Dave struggles with "the yips", brought on by an unfortunate kickball incident that he cannot seem to shake. Meanwhile, Jane proves to be a traitor when she agrees to play kickball for another team. - 2011 ABC Studios

The gang find themselves at yet another wedding, this time the nuptials of Derrick (Stephen Guarino) and Eric (Nate Smith). Will there be "DRAMA" to quote Derrick? Of course, as Brad struggles to tell Jane something important; Jane tries to find a way to help Eric hide the fact that the pricey reception must be downscaled, and Max tries to find the courage to perform with his old all-male Madonna cover band. A dateless Penny is sad that she's at another wedding, alone, until she meets cute guy Chris (Brian Austin Green) via Skype.
