Fast-talking lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) enrolls at Greendale Community College after the State Bar discovered his illegitimate degree and threatened to suspend his license. When Jeff pretends to be a Spanish tutor to get close to his classmate Britta (Gillian Jacobs), he winds up with an entire study group of students looking for his help. Pierce (Chevy Chase), Abed (Danny Pudi), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), Annie (Alison Brie), Troy (Donald Glover), and Britta comprise the band of misfits that Jeff never asked for, but may end up needing when he realizes his connection to Greendale professor Ian Duncan (John Oliver) won't pay off like he hoped.

Jeff's (Joel McHale) efforts to win over Britta (Gillian Jacobs) backfire, and he finds himself paired up with Pierce (Chevy Chase) for their Spanish class project. It is up to the rest of the gang to save themselves and the school when Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) locks them in with the zombie-infected student body. AS THE SCHOOL YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE THE STUDY GROUP REFLECTS ON THEIR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM THE PAST YEAR IN NEVER BEFORE SEEN FLASHBACKS -- As the study group gathers to assemble their 20th and final Anthropology diorama of the year, they begin reminiscing about their favorite times together -- including a trip they made to a western ghost town, a last minute glee club performance and the array of costumes that Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) has managed to wear over the year. Meanwhile, Troy's (Donald Glover) pet monkey returns, only to disappear back into the school's ventilation system. IT'S THE ANTHROPOLOGY FINAL EXAM AND SHIRLEY GOES INTO LABOR -- MALCOLM JAMAL WARNER GUEST STARS -- When the Anthropology class assembles for their final exam, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) notices a twinge, which quickly escalates into full-blown labor. As Jeff (Joel Mchale) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) argue about how best to help, Chang (Ken Jeong) is anxious to claim this "early" labor as clear evidence that it's a "Chang Baby!" Meanwhile, Greendale is hosting a World Food Festival in the parking lot and a riot ensues - Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) is caught in the crossfire. Another end-of-the-year paintball war pits the study group members against each other for a $100,000 prize. But when a mysterious challenger (guest star Josh Holloway) suddenly appears, they must join forces to stop him.

As the paintball war is revealed to be a City College plan to destroy the school, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Troy (Donald Glover) vie for control of Greendale's embattled army. Meanwhile, upset over being shunned by the study group, Pierce (Chevy Chase) attempts to save himself by betraying them.

Jeff gets kicked out of the group's Biology class by their reformed prisoner teacher. Pierce who was out of the group takes Jeff's spot and gets reinstated. Jeff can't get back into the class and slowly starts to go crazy without the study group. Eventually he takes the high road and allows Pierce to keep his spot in the class and vows to get back into the class and into the group on his own merits. Britta and Troy help Abed cope with his favorite show pushing to midseason. The dean discovers Greendale's Air Conditioning annex makes 80% of the school's money and their evil dean is more powerful than he is. Chang joins campus security for room and board when the dean is forced to cut the school's budget.

As Annie (Alison Brie) competes with an overachieving rival in a Model United Nations competition, Jeff (Joel McHale) wrestles with his feelings for his ambitious friend. Meanwhile, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) finds herself at odds with Chang (Ken Jeong) when she is torn between her newly conventional life and her rebellious past.

The study group struggles to incorporate a fellow classmate while working on a project for Professor Kane's (guest star Michael K. Williams) class. Meanwhile, Chang (Ken Jeong) causes a fire while trying to solve a strange mystery of his own making.

When Jeff (Joel McHale) introduces an element of randomness into Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed's (Danny Pudi) housewarming party, reality splits into six timelines in which the group's complicated relationships play out in different ways.

When a drag queen's song makes Hawthorne Wipes an iconic gay product, Pierce (Chevy Chase) embraces it -- until his homophobic dad Cornelius (guest star Larry Cedar) shows up to squelch the idea. Meanwhile, Vice Dean Laybourne (guest star John Goodman) recruits Troy (Donald Glover) for his air conditioning repair school.

Annie (Alison Brie) has second thoughts about moving in with Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) once she realizes that they expect her to live in a blanket fort. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) tells his friends he is sick in order to get out of helping with the move, only to be blackmailed by Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) into spending the day with him.

As Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) films an updated commercial for Greendale, the production takes a wild turn once he discovers that a famous Greendale alum has agreed to appear in the ad. Meanwhile, Abed (Danny Pudi) decides to make a documentary of the proceedings, while Pierce (Chevy Chase) locks himself in a rented trailer in protest of the low budget nature of the project. When Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) agrees to coach Jeff (Joel McHale) in foosball, they realize that she bullied him mercilessly when they were kids. And after she breaks Abed's (Danny Pudi) limited edition Dark Knight DVD, Annie (Alison Brie) goes to great lengths to cover up her mistake.

The study group is slowly convinced to fill in for the Glee Club at Greendale's Christmas pageant after Abed (Danny Pudi) decides he wants them to spend the holiday together.

When Shirley's (Yvette Nicole Brown) remarriage to Andre (guest star Malcolm-Jamal Warner) threatens to put her dreams of starting a business with Pierce (Chevy Chase) on hold, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) takes over and discovers, much to her chagrin, that she is a gifted wedding planner. Meanwhile, Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) purge themselves of weirdness so they can behave normally on Shirley's big day.

The study group must work as celebrity impersonators at a bar mitzvah to pay off Abed's (Danny Pudi) debt to a talent agency owner (guest star French Stewart), while Troy (Donald Glover) struggles with how to deal with his best friend's loose grasp of reality. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) battles his growing ego after being prescribed anti-anxiety medication.

When Britta (Gillian Jacobs) falls for the human embodiment of the Subway sandwich chain, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Pierce (Chevy Chase) hope to use the situation to their advantage. And while Jeff (Joel McHale) worries about having offending a student who subsequently died, Vice Dean Laybourne (guest star John Goodman) sows discontent between Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi).

The students of Greendale are drawn into an epic pillow fight as Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) start a war that threatens to destroy their unique friendship. And even though Jeff (Joel McHale) initially takes advantage of the fighting to avoid going to class, he eventually realizes that he would do anything to keep his friends together.

When a carnival comes to Greendale, Annie (Alison Brie) goes to great lengths to make sure that Britta (Gillian Jacobs) doesn't contact her carnival worker ex-boyfriend. And as Jeff (Joel McHale) tries to figure out why Britta's ex has so much power over her, Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Chang (Ken Jeong) become best friends. Guest starring John Goodman.

After sending Troy (Donald Glover) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) on a date, Annie (Alison Brie) volunteers to keep Abed (Danny Pudi) company in his Dreamatorium. But when she uses the fantasy to try to force Abed to be more empathetic, his personality fractures into dream versions of all their friends.

When the yam the study group was growing for biology class is killed, Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) are on the case. Once they pin the crime on Todd (guest star David Neher), Annie (Alison Brie) and Jeff (Joel McHale) team up to argue their case to the class. Guest starring Michael Kenneth Williams and Leslie Hendrix.

The group reacts to Starburn's death and they offer to have a memorial for him. Jeff could not care less until he learns that Professor Kane has quit in shame over Starburn's death and they have to retake Biology over the summer. This activates Jeff to organize a protest/wake for Starburns. It quickly turns into the group blasting the Dean for all his faults and blows up into a full on revolt. The school board gets pissed about the riot and calls a meeting with the Dean. Jeff agrees this has gone too far and agrees to back the Dean at the board meeting. At the meeting Chang's imposter dean throws the group under the bus and they get expelled from Greendale. Chang tries to overthrow the Dean when he allows him Chang to have marshal law on campus. The Dean fires him. Chang knocks out the Dean and replaces him with "Fauxby". Britta tries and fails to help the group cope with their feelings about Starburn's death.

A couple weeks after the group is expelled from Greendale, Abed starts to go insane and is busted by the cops for going through the Dean's trash. He is recommended to go to therapy and the rest of the group joins him for support. Through a series of flashbacks the therapists diagnoses Abed and whole group as insane and drops the bomb that there was never a Greendale in the first place. They have all been locked up in a mental institution their entire time at Greendale. Jeff quickly realizes the therapist is a lying quack and forces him to reveal that he's been working for Chang to get the group of his scent of deposing the Dean. This activates the group to go back to Greendale to reclaim their enrollment at school.

The group realizes they have to take down Chang themselves in a caper. Chang is running Greendale into the ground, but board thinks he's doing a great job because of lies. It's his birthday and the group surveys the campus. Troy reaches out to the AC school for help, they won't help unless they can have Troy. He turns the AC people down. They break into Chang's birthday gala with classic caper beats. The get to the room where the Dean is being held and they get caught. They get imprisoned. Chang tells them he's going to burn down the school to cover up his mess. The group manages to escape and gets into a razor scooter chase with Chang's kid minions. Chang escapes at the last minute and the board realizes everything has been a lie. They put the Dean back in power to clean up the mess Chang made and the group is reinstated at Greendale. Because they ended up getting help from the AC school Troy has to leave the group to join them.

Pierce gets his inheritance from his dead father and learns that he has secretly been working on a videogame that when you win it unlocks his full inheritance. He and the group go to play the game and help win him his inheritance, but are thwarted by his father's old assistant Gilbert who is a master at the game and wants the inheritance for himself. The group unites to take down Gilbert, but he's too powerful. Gilbert ends up getting to the final level only to have Pierce's father tell him he's not worthy. We discover that Gilbert is Pierce's half brother and the group helps him finally win the inheritance. Abed falls in love with video game character inside the game.

Shirley and Pierce learn that their sandwich shop will get put in the cafeteria. The instantly fight over who's name will be on the lease and it escalates to Pierce suing Shirley and taking her to court. Jeff steps into be Shirley's attorney and Alan Conner (Jeff's former co-worker) represents Pierce. Alan asks Jeff to throw the case to get his old job back at the law firm when he graduates. Shirley allows him to, but her selflessness makes him realize that his friends are more important and his brilliant closing argument causes Pierce to drop the suit. Britta tries to be Abed's therapist to help cope with the loss of Troy to the AC school, but the therapy brings out Evil Abed. He makes Britta cry and tries to make his dark timeline a reality. He goes to cut off Jeff's arm (per the dark timeline) but Jeff's impassioned closing argument snaps the real Abed back. Dean Laybourne takes Troy under his wing at the AC school, but Troy is incredibly bored.

When Jeff (Joel McHale) announces his plan to graduate early, Abed (Danny Pudi) retreats to his "happy place"—a cheesy sitcom version of Greendale where the study group must start over as freshmen. Meanwhile, Troy (Donald Glover) fights with Britta (Gillian Jacobs) over a first-day-of-school tradition and Annie (Alison Brie) worries that she is the only one of her friends who hasn't changed for the better.

On the way to a Halloween party, the study group must free Pierce (Chevy Chase) from his panic room and slowly comes to suspect that his mansion is being haunted by the ghost of his late father. Guest starring Giancarlo Esposito.

Troy (Donald Glover) worries about losing Abed (Danny Pudi) to a fellow obsessive Inspector Spacetime fan at a convention for the show, while Annie (Alison Brie) fantasizes about being married to Jeff (Joel McHale) after he backs out of their weekend plans. After losing out in registration for "The History of Ice Cream," the study group begins their European History class with Professor Noel Cornwallis (Malcolm McDowell, "Entourage," "Franklin & Bash"). To make matters worse, the group encounters the return of the arrogant German students from last season, which Jeff (Joel McHale) and Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) faced over the foosball table. Meanwhile, much to Dean Pelton's (Jim Rash) dismay, Chang (Ken Jeong) returns to campus with a bad case of "Changnesia," appearing not to remember anything of last year's Armageddon.

As Britta (Gillian Jacobs) follows Jeff (Joel McHale) home to see his estranged father (guest star James Brolin) on Thanksgiving, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) invites the rest of the study group to spend the holiday with her judgmental in-laws.

GREENDALE COMES TOGETHER TO UNLOCK THE MYSTERY OF CHANG'S AMNESIA -- ABED FILMS THE EVENTS FOR A DOCUMENTARY -- As the campus strives to get to the bottom of Chang's (Ken Jeong) memory loss, Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) enlists the group to help secure a grant for further medical research and Abed (Danny Pudi) films the activities for a documentary.
