Season 1 episodes (2)

1 Episode 1: Mary
It is the late sixteenth century and Elizabeth I is the protestant Queen of England. Her cousin Mary returns from France to Scotland and is hailed as Mary Queen of Scots, a catholic queen. She is a threat to Elizabeth as she has a claim to the throne of England. And so begins a historic drama about the struggle for power between the Catholics and Protestants, of dirty politics, family rivalry, murder, deceit, lust and betrayal.
2 Episode 2: James
Mary’s son James finally succeeds to the English and Scottish throne after the death of the childless Elizabeth but is faced with growing discontent from the Catholics culminating in an attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up the houses of Parliament and kill the king.

About this show

With true grit, venomous dialogue, and buckets of conflict, writer Jimmy McGovern's presents his beautiful and brutal telling of the turbulent reigns of mother-and-son Scottish monarchs Mary, Queen of Scots and King James VI of Scotland, who would go on to become King James I of England. There is plotting aplenty as the pair struggle to take control of England, shrewdly manipulating the sectarian divide between Catholics and Protestants.

This movie was so bad. Writing, acting and production were just horrible.
