I am 53 years old, so i remember the original and can't help but compare the two. This new series is pretty fantastic; as in fantasy, but who's writing the checks? In the original magnum P.I. the 308 Ferrari was never destroyed and lasted the entire series. The new guy destroys two in one week. Was he listed on the insurance policies? This is one private eye who relies, most heavily, upon the generosity of others to investigate matters best left to the resources of the FBI: he has a friend at Naval Intelligence, he has an associate with MI6 connections. He has a friend with a helicopter, who didn't ask for fuel money. He has a friend with boats and submarine equipment, who happens to have connections everywhere. He has a medical contact for forensics. He has keys to a guest house on a palatial island estate, with access to exotic supercars, owned by Robin Masters: a renowned best selling author who seems to pick up the tab for supercar misuse and maintenance. Fun, fun, fun... I have only seen one episode, so i am curious about realism, only as it compares to the earlier series, given that this is all fantasy based. However, even this sort of fantasy should have some restraint.

After watching the reboot of Macgyver start strong and then fizzle out to a fairly unwatchable show, I was a little concerned for this one. However from the first episode in season one, through season two it is strong. The friendship Magnum has with his friends is really what makes it for me. And anyone that has served in the U.S Military can relate to that friendship. Each episode is another interesting mystery and funny banter between Magnum and Higgins (who is female in this reboot). In writing this, episode 17 of season 2 is the latest. So far The original Rick and T.C. as well as TC's helicopter and the Ferrari 308 but the 308 don't make past one episode. If you are unsure, don't be. It is a great show and I highly recommend it.

What the damn hell. How could you remake the the most perfect show. This is whats wrong with the world there is no originality. You guys just make dollar store versions of the greatest show on earth. You guys should be ashamed of your selves. Just because you put a hot piece of man meat at the new magnum does not mean its a good show. Tom Selleck and his perfect mustache must be ashamed by this.
