Norwegian thriller following six days in the life of journalist Peter Veras, who uncovers evidence of fraud involving the country's elite and even a member of his own family. In spite of this alarming news, Peter allows the story to be published, unaware of the huge consequences that will quickly follow.

Five years into his investigation, journalist Peter Veras finds the first sign that his brother was pushed to commit suicide, and continues to search for the truth. He and his sister-in-law Eva approach a leading financier who knew his brother's secret. While promising to keep his family out of trouble, Peter runs into difficulty when his colleagues and the police no longer believe his explanation about what happened.

Peter deciphers the connection between the suicides of his brother and Age Haugen. Both were in possession of paintings referring to the offering of a child sacrifice in the Bible, and were afraid something awful would happen to their own children. They both killed themselves on the same date - October 22. The journalist also tries to find out how financier Tom Lied rose so quickly to become one of Norway's wealthiest men.

Peter begins to realise that his brother's involvement runs deeper than first feared, and someone is trying to warn him about what happened. He also suspects a conspiracy that reaches the inner corridors of power within finance, politics and the media, and decides to locate the mysterious whistleblower in a bid to uncover the truth.

Peter is afraid to go to the police for help in finding his missing nephew in case Andreas comes to harm, so his sister-in-law and Vibeke join him on a private quest. They find a coded message connecting another brutality to his brother - which leads them to a secret network, but Peter realises that the threats against his sibling are about to affect him too.

Peter becomes Norway's most wanted man when one of his confidants is badly injured and another is killed, leaving him the main suspect in both crimes. While still in possession of his freedom, the journalist's continued search for his nephew leads him west, and with time running out, he receives help from an unexpected source.
