I loved watching this witty series as a musician, and University scholar of French Existentialism myself, where post war occupied France desperate cries for Freedom, created the free listening to Jazz, played by the free top exiled American Black Jazz musicians. This whole counter culture philosophy, lends itself to the American "Beat" not Beatnik..the true term is Beat Generation, based on "Beatitude" and freedom of expression. Poetry/music/literature/art.
