About this show

Haunted by the failure to catch Jack the Ripper, Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) is charged with keeping law and order in Whitechapel. Reid is assisted by Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn) and former US Army surgeon and Pinkerton agent Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg). They frequently cross paths with brothel madam Long Susan (MyAnna Buring), who came to London with Jackson. All will come to depend on one another to uphold justice - both moral and legal - in the dying days of Victorian England.

I wasn't too keen at first as I hate these kind of dramas but after 2 or 3 episodes I was hooked and think it is very well done, well acted and brilliant to watch, such a shame the BBC sold it. I am currently watching it on amazon prime, I am on series 3 and watch it every single night.

What an incredible piece of drama. Even the music and titles are fabulous. As something of a student of historical drama, I have been so impressed by the script, which uses the authentic language which would have been the norm at the time, rather than modernising it as happens so often. The best drama I have seen for many years, the atmosphere is amazing. Love it.
