Absolutely gripping and stands up well to re-watching too. Laurie is absolutely spellbinding as the most charming, affable, reassuring arms dealer - a man whose fortune comes at the cost of civilian lives and who can justify chemical weapons with a mask of detachment. Every cell of you hates everything he stands for, and yet are totally engaged by his easy charm. A bipedal shark. First class villain. And Coleman is convincing, grounded and even heartwarming and our anti-Roper. Tom Hollander is also absolutely wonderful in this and often overlooked for Laurie and Coleman - Corky is a wonderful character whose own arc is beautifully portrayed. Gorgeous locations, the plot has a chance to breathe that it just cannot have in a movie, so the atmosphere is beautifully created. The trailer was clearly cut by someone to misrepresent the heart and quality of the production. Anyone can make explosions look good, but it takes talent to make the bits in between even more compelling.

Watched this in a binge over a couple of days. I would say it's probably 3 hours too long for what it's trying to say. In episode 3 there is a cringe worthy coincidence which de-rails any credibility built up so far. It's downhill from there and the finale is predictable and a bit pathetic. Olivia Colman is terrific though.

Possibly the most compelling, thrilling and exciting TV series I've ever seen. Tom H, Hugh L, Olivia and Tom Hollander are all stand out. Fabulous location filming. Like all such tall tales a little suspension of disbelief goes a long way. Exceptional TV drama.
