About this show

The drama takes place on a single night in 1912, focusing on the prosperous middle-class Birling family. The family are spending a happy evening celebrating the engagement of Sheila Birling to Gerald Croft - a marriage that will result in the merging of two successful local businesses. Yet, just when everything seems to be going so well, they receive a surprise visit from an Inspector Goole who is investigating the suicide of a young girl to whom we discover each of the family had a connection. Goole confronts the Birlings in turn to try and get to the bottom of her death, and the part in it that each of them may have played. In the process, he uncovers long held secrets and scandals. The chilling denouement sees Goole leave the family house with the Birlings considering the consequences of their actions and behaviour, just as they receive a mysterious phone call from the police who are sending an inspector over to ask them some questions about the suicide of a young girl... So who was Goole?

Classic: English drama, nothing is as it seems. If this appears on school, college, uni., or any reading list GIVE IT A GO...fantastic adaptation. A visual page turner.

Although it stuck closer to the play then the previous BBC adaptation, it completely ignored main principles of the play. For example, showing multiple people the photo and even showing the audience the photo. Complete trash.

The twist hasn't survived the decades since it was written, but this offers outstanding performances, and a timely message.
