1 Call the Midwife: Special: Christmas 2023
12/25/23
Season-only
It’s December 1968. The countdown to Christmas is on, as is the launch of Apollo 8’s moon mission. Sister Monica Joan is convinced this could be her last yuletide and that she will not live to see man walk on the moon. Meanwhile, as Shelagh and Dr Turner navigate family life, they are unsettled when a parcel arrives from May’s mother in Hong Kong. Sister Julienne makes a very generous offer to allow Colette to move into Nonnatus House for the foreseeable future. Nancy is thrilled to be able to spend every day with Colette and be more present in her upbringing.

About this show

A moving, intimate, funny and, above all, true-to-life look at the colorful stories of midwifery and families in East London from the Fifties, based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth. When Jenny Lee first arrives in Poplar, she knows nothing about hardship, poverty or indeed, life itself. Attached to an order of nursing nuns at Nonnatus House, Jenny is part of a team of midwives who visit expectant mothers, providing the poorest women with the best possible care.

Very powerful storyline based on the true account diaries of Jenny, that will make you laugh and cry. The characters are very likeable. It's very interesting to see how life and times have changed, and effectively the birth of the NHS.

Based on true accounts by one of the midwifes that covered that area, very interesting and often uplifting, a good account of life in what was a poor area of London, whilst I am sure there will be inaccuracies the show provides an interesting insight into post war britain

This show is amazing. It can make you cry from happiness and sadness. The acting is 11/10, each character is absolutely developed and lovable. The babies are live, which seems to add to the emotion of the moment. Cost-wise, it's ok. But seasons 1-7 are currently on Netflix, so if you have that I recommend using it. But here they have season 8, which I've been looking to rewatch. All in all, thoroughly enjoyed this series!
