Max and Dave discover there's a guy living in their ceiling. Penny encourages Alex to start dating again and unknowingly sets her up with the "ceiling guy". Jane pushes Brad to go on a couples date with Brad's married coworker.

4. Mein Coming Out

Max's parents are in town and he's never come out to them. He enlists Jane to be his "beard" (fake girlfriend)- in the end he comes out. Penny dates Hitler.

5. Like Father, Like Gun

Jane pushes Brad to say "I love you" to his dad (Damon Wayans Sr.) At the hospital, Francis misconstrues Brad's "I love you" as something wrong with him and has a heart attack that turns out only to be a panic attack. Dave and Alex become obsessed with playing with nerf guns. Penny meets a cute Italian and realizes that she can only speak Italian and understand him when she's drunk.

6. Of Mice & Jazz-Kwon Do

Alex has a mouse in her apartment and asks Dave to come over and get rid of it humanely. While there, Dave falls in love with their old place. He lets the mouse go so he can spend more time there. Penny takes a Krav Maga class. Jane joins the class, is way too intense, and kicks the crap out of Penny. Max accuses Brad of being a "gay-cist".

7. Dave of the Dead

Dave (Zachary Knighton) decides to quit his job and open a restaurant, only to learn that his friends think he is making a big mistake. Meanwhile, as Jane (Eliza Coupe) and Max (Adam Pally) vie over which of them would survive a zombie apocalypse, Penny (Casey Wilson) struggles to fit in with her new hipster boyfriend (guest star John Bobek) and his friends.

8. The Girl With The David Tattoo

Dave (Zachary Knighton) and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) contemplate removing the tattoos they each got after a night of drinking, until they discover how painful it will be. And while Jane (Eliza Coupe) tries to convince Max (Adam Pally) not to be so judgmental about a prospective date (guest star O-T Fagbenle), Brad (Damon Wayans, Jr.) tries to assuage his guilt after his complaints cost a waiter his job.

As Dave (Zachary Knighton) seeks his high school mentor Alan Fitzgerald's (guest star Rob Huebel) help in a big food truck competition, Brad and Jane argue for job interview strategies. And after Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Max (Adam Pally) organize a protest against a chain coffee shop, they have second thoughts upon learning that Max has been dating the company's handsome owner (guest star Max Greenfield).

And as Dave reluctantly moves in with Max (Adam Pally), Penny grudgingly agrees to attend a cooking class with Alex.

When their favorite band is coming to Chicago, Dave (Zachary Knighton) and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) refuse to let their recent break up stand in the way of everyone seeing them together. While Penny (Casey Wilson) is excited about reuniting with Tommy (guest star Nick Thune), a Barefoot Pedaler fiddler with whom she had a one-night stand, a YouTube video of the wedding day debacle reopens Dave's emotional wounds.

12. The Shershow Redemption

When her "safety husband" Shershow (guest star T.J. Miller) is engaged to be married, Penny (Casey Wilson) looks to replace him with Max (Adam Pally). But as the gang prepares to attend Penny's chronically irresponsible friend's wedding, Jane and Brad (Eliza Coupe and Damon Wayans, Jr.) discover that because Max failed to get a minister's license prior to their own wedding, they aren't officially married.

13. Why Can't You Read Me?
