A great family drama, you care about all the characters both good and bad and the writing is very clever however the UFO scene is really weird and there is a hideous amount of allegory.

I'm writing this having seen up to Episode 8 on TV. So far, it's one of the best TV series of recent times. A sprinkling of references back to the movie are rewards for fans but don't interrupt enjoyment for newcomers. The casting is wonderful, with Billy Bob putting in a stellar performance: his character is at once utterly ruthless and abhorrent but also likeable... Allison Tolman is standout; a newcomer to watch in the future. Martin Freeman destroys any typecasting and plays his character in a way that leaves you shaken and unsure of what lies underneath. Colin Hanks shows himself a strong, independent actor with no need to lean on his father's fame.
