From PBS and Masterpiece - Otto Powell (Jack Davenport), a brilliant and charismatic surgeon, is summoned to the hospitals theatre where young surgeon and pretender to the throne, Richard Truscott, is about to make a rather serious error. Humiliating though it is Richard has his wife to be, ex-nurse Jean (Zoe Boyle), to take his mind off such things.

From PBS and Masterpiece - Wedded bliss is short lived for Richard (Oliver Chris) and Jean (Zoe Boyle) as on arrival back from their honeymoon Richard makes a sad discovery. Trust issues arise between the couple and Richard is furious that Otto (Jack Davenport) had a hand in this deception.

From PBS and Masterpiece - Otto (Jack Daveport), Charlie (Shaun Dingwall) and Jean (Zoe Boyle) have a brush with the law when they attract the attention of the police whilst out on a ‘special’ private procedure. Questions are asked at the hospital and while Otto seems to be dealing with the situation calmly Charlie thinks they are done for.

From PBS and Masterpiece - In the wake of the patient’s death Charlie (Shaun Dingwall) is worried about being found guilty and being struck off. He is frightened that no one, not even Otto (Jack Davenport), will defend him at the enquiry. Then when Mehta (Ronny Jhutti) starts stirring trouble he looks ready to crumble.

From PBS and Masterpiece - Elizabeth (Natasha Little) continues to try to manage the situation with Mulligan (Iain Glen) alone but it soon becomes clear that it has spiralled out of control and he cannot be reasoned with. In so deep and unable to turn to Otto (Jack Davenport), Elizabeth comes to the desperate realisation that Mulligan might win.

From PBS and Masterpiece - A lavish fundraiser and beauty pageant at the hospital brings everyone together. While reluctant nurses parade in their swimwear and raucous doctors jeer and heckle, Elizabeth (Natasha Little) persists in keeping her troubles with Mulligan (Iain Glen) from Otto (Jack Davenport), Richard (Oliver Chris) and Jean (Zoe Boyle) put on a brave face despite the hurt that brews so keenly beneath the surface, Lily (Joanna Page) pretends to be happy that she and Charlie (Shaun Dingwall) are staying in London and from the sidelines, Angela (Catherine Steadman) once again is reminded of the fact that Otto is married.

His marriage to the elegant Elizabeth (Natasha Little, Any Human Heart) appears to be idyllic — but they are hiding a devastating secret which could shatter the careful illusion they have created.
