The best mid season drama ABC released the first episode on Hulu Plus two weeks prior to the 3/4/13 premiere. Rather than posting negative reviews here because the show is not yet available in Google Play, you could watch now on Hulu or do the mature thing and hold your comments until the show has aired. To that end, this is among the best hour long drama pilots I've seen on any broadcast networks in quite some time. It looks and feels like nothing else on US television. Perhaps that's because its based on a Dutch series and producers wisely decided to not water it down in translation. The show is stark, haunting and well cast with actors who look like real people. Plot wise, its like WEEDS minus the humor and with cocaine and Russian-American crime families in the SF Bay Area subbing in for pot and Nancy Botwin and company in SoCal. The first hour is deliberately paced but its a slow burn that draws you in.
Weak in spots, but good TV My wife and I decided to knock out the remaining 7 episodes over Labor Day weekend. Was a mess of twists and turns, and a lot of characters to remember. It is a good show, not perfect by any means, but fun and laid back. Cliche at times, too, but good. I'm biased though, I've been a fan of Radha Mitchell's for a while, and think she's a little underrated. Plus, I got happy when Mr. Hell On Wheels himself appeared in the pilot as well. Sloppy at times, but a good show. The characters kept me interested, especially Schiller. And I have to say, folks shouldn't rate a show based on their technology experience. There are a bunch of 1's on this show, not because it's bad, but because Google Play listed it as free and it wasn't working for a few days to purchase. I just left it and came back later when it was working. But a lot of folks got mad at Google Play and voted 1's, which is incredibly frustrating. Don't turn people away from a movie or TV show, by voting the technology. If you don't like the way Google Play works, send them feedback. Otherwise, you're potentially ruining any chance this show has at getting viewers.
I got Scroogled, again. This offering is on the front page of the Android Market (who would call it the play store, that's just stupid). It doesn't work, it gets low scores. Life is kinda fair like that sometimes. If ABC doesn't like it, they should publish their content in in a single place. Not so sure I'm sticking around for another 2 years. I spent a lot of money on these folks. They will most likely enhance something that is not broken so that this review gets broken or obfuscated. The review box is broken, seriously?
Could be great, but falls short. The synopsis of this show sounds great, but they somehow don't live up to the potential. The writers never make you care about any of the characters, and the husband was in the show for such a short amount to of time that we never felt any kind of grief when he was killed. The views didn't get a chance to feel any kind of connection before we were all of a sudden supposed feel sympathy for them. The main character, Marta, is so cold and her delivery seems forced.
Yummy I really love this show. It tries to take itself seriously, but there are a few moments your're thinking to yourself " WTF Marta!" But it doesn't go far enough, I can see what others are saying, the mob world that Martha got thrown into may in turn make her a better mobster in the end; but I don't have any hope for a season 2, and I'm pretty sure, after 6 episodes in, and 2 left to go that there will be any plot tie ups.But I could be wrong.
Wont play on mobile They need to stop advertising these tv shows, that have free episodes, on the mobile Google play store when you can't "buy" them or watch them. Its ridiculous. And no, rating this down will not get the show canceled, a bad show gets canceled. Which after watching this on my tv... this is a bad show. Its like they ran out of ideas. Or at least ideas that don't make you cringe in agony.
