1 Preserve the Romance
9/12/11
Doc Martin's return to London is delayed by the birth of his son, the arrival of an incompetent replacement at his Portwenn practice, and the sad news of a sudden death. He temporarily moves in with Louisa and their still unnamed baby.
2 Dry Your Tears
9/19/11
Martin agrees to stay on until a more suitable substitute is found. He moves back into his house and persuades Louisa to join him so he can help raise their child. Martin's aunt Ruth arrives in Portwenn for a funeral. She's almost as cranky as her nephew.

A wailing baby and sleepless nights leave Martin and Louisa with frayed nerves. New receptionist Morwenna makes a bad first impression on the doctor. Aunt Ruth deals with an intruder and a reclusive neighbor with a mysterious illness.
4 Mother Knows Best
10/3/11
The first annual Portwenn charity fun run leads to a rivalry between Bert Large's restaurant and a local pub. Louisa's mother, Eleanor, shows up unannounced, and while Louisa isn't happy to see her, the baby starts sleeping more soundly under Eleanor's care.
5 Remember Me

PC Penhale has an unexpected visitor: his ex-wife Maggie, who exhibits strange symptoms. Louisa learns her mother's real reason for returning to Portwenn, and she and Martin finally choose a name for their baby.
6 Don't Let Go
10/17/11
PC Penhale takes desperate measures to convince Maggie to stay in Portwenn. When Aunt Ruth discovers old family photos, Martin is reminded of his unhappy childhood. Martin and Louisa can't seem to agree on anything, and tensions reach a breaking point.
7 Cats and Sharks
10/24/11
Threatened by loan sharks, Bert Large can't afford to host a charity event for a cat sanctuary. PC Penhale intervenes, and Eleanor comes up with a way to bring more customers to Bert's restaurant. Meanwhile, Martin makes plans to leave Portwenn in a week.
8 Ever After
10/31/11
Unaware of her feelings for him, Martin asks Mrs. Tishell, the pharmacist, to babysit James Henry for the day. Fueled by a cocktail of self-prescribed drugs, she takes the baby and disappears. Martin, Louisa, Aunt Ruth, and PC Penhale pursue them to a castle high on a cliff.

About this show

Doc Martin: He's surly, self-centered, rude, and uptight--but he's the only doctor in town. Martin Clunes (Manhunt, Men Behaving Badly) stars as Doc Martin, a hotshot London surgeon forced to change careers when he develops a fear of blood. Relocating to a sleepy, scenic Cornish fishing village, he offends everyone in town and falls in love with a beautiful teacher (Caroline Catz, DCI Banks).

I know the show has to balance comedy with the ongoing romance between the Doc and Louisa, but it's tipped too far in the direction of farce and away from poignancy. While I'm sure the show is generating great laughs in Britain with the over the top situations and characters, what's getting lost is the human element and the plausible evolution of Martin's character. I've followed all seven seasons, and this season was largely a waste, in my opinion. This last episode was dreadful. I wish the writers had taken the opportunity to explore how Martin adopted this somewhat autistic coping style, and what leads to small breakthroughs and relapses along the way. In psychotherapy, Martin suddenly has great self-awareness but we don't know how he's come to it. The self-awareness doesn't seem to translate into anything he does including conversations with Louisa. That is, until the eighth episode when, all at once, everything is magically fixed. As the show has progressed, we've gotten 90% buffoonery instead of depth.

The most brilliant show on TV. I wish I can imitate Doc Martin since I run Into stupid people like those he had to Interact with daily. Wouldn't it be nice to tell off a few stupid people like that; sometimes? Oh, In fact all the time!!!! I think we missed Doc Martins first real organism; I mean the one with Louisa, must have been nice to see the doctor wonder what just happened to him and explain away the medical process as if Louisa never had one before. LoL O gosh!! an orgasm; he must have exclaimed. Then explain to Louisa. Hmm!!!! that was my orgasm you just felt, I felt yours too, do you know that happens in the height of passion; you can get pregnant. Bugger!

A brilliant show. I've been addicted since first brought to the States. It's refreshing to watch a witty, funny, clean show like this. Where you grow to have a love/hate relationship with characters. Saddest moment is still when Aunt John passed. Best moment was when baby James was born in the Pub over the P A. system So happy to see them doing season 7. Hopefully the pharmacist gets written off.
