I'm leaving 2 stars because, for all its benefits, this app has some very basic errors which could be MUCH improved. The main one that springs to mind is the arbitrary character limits on references and reviews. I am finding this extremely restrictive, and unnecessarily so. Also the 'pay us £50 for "verified" status' seems at direct odds with the spirit of couchsurfing as originally intended. If you are going to levy a fee, at least make it affordable. £50 is a lot to the average backpacker.

Be warned! Verification scam. The app is designed to make it look like you're verifying your identity. There's no confirmation page to tell you that you're actually ordering (in their words) a digital product for 56 euros. I contacted them straight after without using any of the benefits and they wouldn't issue a refund, claiming that I'd purchased a non-refundable digital product for which I don't recall confirming any terms and conditions.

The service is great, but the app is really sub-standard. The most frustrating pain point is the hangout feature doesn't work properly as soon as you're in a city with 100+ people on it. It lets you join hangouts people have added you in (but doesn't show up properly) so you only see notifications of messages but can't see the rest of the chat. Notification of normal inbox messages can be a hit and miss at times too. If the team were to fix this properly, I'd consider upping to 5-stars.
