About this app

This app is intended for children aged eight and above, as well as adults of all ages.

Algebra can be tricky to master, but with the help of the Hands-On Equations 1 app, equations such as 4x + 2 = 3x + 9 and 2(3x + 1) = 2x + 14 become child’s play. Watch the sense of satisfaction in your children as they solve these equations in only six lessons!

Using physical game pieces, the original Hands-On Equations program has already helped more than a million young students in the United States gain confidence with algebra. Now that same, proven method is available virtually in the palm of your hand.

The app works like this:
• An expert instructional video introduces each lesson. It is essential to watch this video!
• Success with the two practice problems enables the app user to access the ten lesson exercises.
•The unknown x is represented by a blue pawn on the digital screen, while number cubes represent the constants.
•In Lesson 1, the icons do not move. The student solves the equations by thinking or "guessing and checking." This lesson sets the stage for later lessons.
•Beginning with Lesson 2, the student places the game pieces on the balance scale to represent the two sides of the equation.
•Starting with Lesson 3, the student simplifies the equations by performing "legal moves" with the pawn, and beginning with Lesson 4, legal moves with the cubes.
•In Lesson 5, students work with equations involving subtraction, such as 5x – 3x + 2 = x + 5, and in Lesson 6, they work with equations involving parentheses, such as 2(2x + 1) = 3x + 12.
•To conduct the check, the student resets the problem on the scale and evaluates both sides. The check is a required part of every problem.
•Feedback is provided to the student in the check phase of the problem.
•Simple touch features are used to move the pieces around.
•An intuitive and attractive user interface makes the app easy to use.
• More than 80 equations to solve!
•Supports multiple users while keeping track of the problems solved by each user

Hands-On Equations is the ideal first introduction to algebra for elementary school students. Not only will these students have FUN and be fascinated with the program, but their self-esteem will be dramatically enhanced as they experience success with sophisticated-looking algebraic equations.

If you are an adult who failed algebra: This app will show you how easy it would have been to understand solving equations if presented in this manner.

Math is so much fun because I'm all about numbers here. I like them because it seems really cool about learning how to work with them and go as high as you could go and see if you have the right amount of things to show by using numbers. I like to collect and work with numbers so I could see signs speed limits and scores that I could do something with. Counting money is also my thing because I like to help out with budgeting and see if we did well and have enough of cash to get things we needed♡

I have always been able to do math in my head. It has been 15 years since I have done actual mathematical equations. I had to take an aptitude test for a career opportunity which required me to do algebraic equations in to which I was having a hard time remembering. This is an absolute wonderful way to help refresh your brain on the order of how the equations are to be done and also a fun time while learning. More fun than any game app I have ever played and worth every penny.

At the age of 15 my parent repeated what the maths teacher said to them--your daughter will never be good at maths. Personally I thought algebra, the hardest maths of all, was a strange Klingon-like language which I was too dumb to decipher. When I downloaded this app, I did so with reluctance. But wow, two days later I'm confidentally solving problems and absolutely loving it. The explanations and visuals are soooo logical, even my 15 year old daughter (divine providence) finds it easy. This is why I'm happy to recommend this app to everyone. By the way, I'm 46, so it's not too late to train an old human new tricks.
