Before there was machine learning, there was Michel Thomas. For over 50 years he worked on decoding languages by breaking them down into their most essential component parts. These ‘building blocks’ are introduced to the learner sequentially in such a way that you reconstruct the language for yourself - to form your own sentences, to say what you want, when you want. During a course, you will join a Michel Thomas Method
teacher and two students in a live lesson, learning from both their successes and their mistakes to keep you motivated and involved throughout the course. You, as the learner, become the third student and participate actively in the class. Within the very first hour you will be able to construct simple phrases by listening and thinking out answers for yourself without the pressure of writing or stress of having to memorize. You will learn at your own pace, pausing and repeating where necessary.

Ratings and reviews

This is a review of the app itself, not of the Michel Thomas method, which I rate very highly. The app is poor, mainly because you cannot control it via Bluetooth headsets which, given the learning method relies on you being able to pause and repeat what was said, is unforgivable and detracts from the whole learning experience.

Rubbish. The Portuguese 'free lesson' is actually a 3 minute infomercial. That's it. You don't get to try any language learning. I've done MT French and Spanish previously and liked them. Very disappointed with this experience. PS I'd give it no stars if that were possible. UPDATE: I've now bought Portuguese Foundation. Good course but the app is poor. Lots of bugs and usability issues. No room to list here...

Content is excellent but the delivery is poor. The learning method relies heavily on the pause / play button, it needs a much bigger control so you don't need to look at the screen. It would be good to be able to play a selection from it to fall asleep to rather than the whole thing without pause. The content is busy teaching me spanish though. ... 21 Sept 2019, its stopped working again, following Android System update. Just get a blank screen / no library.
