Used to be great, but recently if I do much as touch anything for more than half a second it puts me into select mode which I don't like.

Thank you for your feedback. Previously, a long press showed a popup menu, but recent updates changed it to a bottom menu bar, which may feel inconvenient. You can restore the popup via Main screen → ⋮ → Settings → File Explorer → “Show popup on long press.” If needed, please contact polarsoft@nate.com

this is a brilliant. can we have add free version that can be purchased for one time payment. I be willing to pay £5 easy. eventhough the ads are not at all intrusive and are minimal thanks to developers.

excellent , It has been my default file manager for over 4 years, now Wait for amoled style dark mode / true black theme

The long-press menu has been updated to follow the standard Android bottom menu style. You can switch back to the previous popup style in Settings (7zipper home screen → top-right three-dot menu (⋮) → Settings → Explorer → Show long-press popup).
