About this app

Element Classic is the previous-generation of Element mobile app. Friends, family and communities should use the free and open source Element X app which is faster, easier to use, and more powerful. New users of public sector organisations, enterprises and professional teams users should use the Element Pro app that is built for work and organisations. Element Classic is available at least until the end of 2025 and will receive critical security updates but no further enhancements or new features.

Ratings and reviews

The app does not synchronize chats automatically, meaning that new messages are not received nor notified about unless manually opening the app first to refresh and receive those messages. The GUI is nice but this is becoming annoying to deal with. Would not suggest unless wanting great privacy at the expense of tedious notification.

Lost my Important messages because Element Security Key feature is broken. Always says incorrect. Also, almost every time we Verify sessions it Cancels or has no Effect mostly. It only works with QR Code. Joining Rooms is be very Buggy and Fails alot. Joining multiple Rooms is very an extremly slow process. Instead of fetching new Messages when Idle, it does nothing.

Still better than the new client. Does its job well and has minimum flaws. What pisses me off is the notification sync. Reading messages on my PC still trigger new message notification on my phone. At last it supports all matrix instances, the new one does not.
