I've been using it for almost three years now, and it genuinely gets better every update. It's still not 100% perfect, such as Pixel HDR not being present but that's not entirely in their control. Backing up and sharing photos/albums without it being on the "cloud" or requiring an account really is unbeatable. I have it through a reverse proxy so others can access it, but for personal use you can use Tailscale.

I've been moving away from Google and other commercial SaaS apps for years. Many self-hosted apps aren't quite feature-rich or great in terms of user experience, and I've come to accept that as a trade-off. With Immich not only I get virtually unlimited storage, better control and security, but also I think it's even better than Google Photos in so many ways.

Unfortunately once I log in, all I get is a spinning icon and errors about failing to connect to the server (in a Docker container on a PC) on port 443. I'm sure this is something local to my setup, hence still giving a 4-star rating. But I can see numerous other comments online about this problem, with no method for resolving it. It would be nice if some of these apparently-common issues were described, with resolutions, somewhere in the documentation.
