About this game

'The Eighth Continent' is an interactive novel in which you are the story's hero!

In a world devastated by a cataclysmic super-eruption, you must search for your lost family.  Who should you trust?  What dangers await you in the volcanic wasteland?

Scavenge, fight, hack, and trade your way through a ruined world.

Features:
- A branching storyline; make crucial choices and live with the consequences.
- Conditional choices, where your options may depend on the items in your inventory, your health or mental state, previously visited locations, your reputation with other characters, or even your wealth!
- A card-based fighting mini-game.
- A mini-game for hacking electronic locks.
- A mini-game where you scavenge for precious goods.
- Vendors to buy and sell.
- A decryption mini-game to decode secret records.
- An inventory of consumables and quest items for you to manage.
- Over 700 pages.
- Over 20 achievements.
- An automatic bookmark save system.

Suitable for adults and young adults alike, the book uses clean language throughout and contains mild fictional violence in the form of a card game.  Although a standalone story, 'The Eighth Continent' is the first book of a trilogy; books two and three are already written, and will be released as apps soon.

The app is designed for both phones and tablets, and works in both landscape and portrait orientations.

(This is an ad-supported version of the paid app 'The Eighth Continent'.)

Special thanks to Matt Rix for his excellent Futile 2D library.

I love this game! I first downloaded The Eighth Continent about a year ago and forgot to review it. If you like "choose your own adventure" type games, do not pass this one by! The story is great, there's lots of choices, mental and health bars add unique difficulty, and the battles are fun and engaging. The second installment of the game is also great.

I downloaded this game years ago and finished it but never came back to leave a review. I decided to fix that because this is a game worth praising. The story is well written and the apocalyptic narrative unique, a super volcanic eruption mixed with gigantic monster bugs? Very nice. The mini games are also enjoyable, one for each type of activity so it doesn't get too stale. And of course the creators were generous enough not to charge for part 1 or part 2, but I'd say you should pay regardless.

Thanks for both your detailed reviews Mothman, we always hoped the variety of reading intermixed with little games would push people on, but in the end, you've got to be interested in punching earwigs in the face too! Book 3 is still underway, but is ambitious and taking time! Pat

I've just downloaded it a day ago and I'm on chapter 3. I love the mystery, the ambient music and that the app mixes a visual novel with game elements. Sorry just saw your reply...I'm so sorry. Not sure if you've had to fix them in all this time. I promise to check back in a few days. So let me know if you still need a list of those typos.

Hi Samantha, yes, we'd really appreciate any help you can give us. If you can remember any of the typos, please email them to patrickgarrett1982@hotmail.co.uk, and I'll check them out. Just describe them as best you can (i.e. the bit where the dogs attack you...) and I should be able to locate them. Very much appreciated! - Pat UPDATE: Yes please!
