The Giant app has always been garbage and now it's worse than ever. On earlier versions I couldn't connect with my bike unless I completed an update, but it wouldn't let me using my android phone. I had to use an old iPhone out of the kitchen drawer. Now I am forced to update the app and sync my old data but the app has frozen. I am just standing in my garage frustrated with what was supposed to lead to some FUN. It appears I am being compelled to opt into more data collection, SHAME GIANT!

Load the app & check for updates before you leave your home for a ride! Updates are mandatory & you will find yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere using your data plan & wasting your time downloading/installing the update. When it's done, DOUBLE CHECK any settings you may have changed with it! (dashboard appearance, imperial vs metric, & assist power levels). I drove an hour to go for a ride on a non-local trail, powered on my bike, started the app.... and got stuck with, "an update is available and needs to be installed before you can use this app". Really? Right now? So I jump through hoops on my phone to allow the app unlimited data access, then wait 20+ minutes for it to update the app AND the bike, just for it to reset ALL of my bike's settings to factory default! Using the app to track a ride would be a mistake! DO NOT RELY ON THIS FOR MAPPING YOUR RIDES! I had ridden nearly 26 miles, hit the end of the trail & had to turn around. I walked the bike maybe 20ft and the app jumped from 26.6 miles to -17.6 miles. NEGATIVE 17? For the rest of the ride it counted upwards to zero & continued counting into positive numbers, at the end of my ~53 mile ride, it said I had only ridden 5.3miles. The math doesn't even make any sense, and it's not my phone's GPS because "Map My Ride" tracked it just fine! Also, there's the continuing annoyance of having to constantly re-connect the app/phone to the bike MANUALLY every time it updates or after the bike auto-powers off because you took took too long... stretching... on the side of the trail (if you know what I mean). From now on I will only be using this app when I feel it's necessary to adjust my assist power percentages. It would be nice if they could add a feature to the app to allow the user to change a bike's "power on defaults"! ie. When I turn on my bike, the headlights come on and the assist mode is in 5, I would prefer the lights to be OFF and assist to either be 0/off or 1.

Update 4-4 completely broken. Send you into a loop, you must update, update, you must update, update.... Deletes map route when I press pause. Won't sync with Strava, and it won't automatically connect to bike. Also, it doesn't keep the screen on. All just really bad programming. Maybe hire PM that actually uses the app... Don't just outsource the work to people that don't care.
