About this app

TEFpad is a tablature editor designed for Android tablets and phones that implements most features available in the TablEdit desktop program.

Just like TEFview for Android, our free file viewer, TEFpad opens, displays, prints and plays all TablEdit files (.tef format). It imports as well many types of music files (ASCII tablatures, ABC files, MusicXML, MIDI, Guitar Pro, TabRite, PowerTab...).

But TEFpad isn't just a file viewer like TEFview. It's a full-featured score editor, and the free version lets you try it out for yourself.
However, this free version has a few critical limitations: only the first 16 measures can be saved, a watermark is added on PDFs and you can't copy the contents of one file into another file...
To get rid of these limitations, you can purchase TEFpad Pro from within the app (select "Upgrade to TEFpad Pro")

The .tef files saved with TEFpad can be opened and modified in the TablEdit desktop program that offers advanced capabilities not completely available in TEFpad.

I'm not a music expert and wanted to edit existing tabs to tweak measures here and there. I bought TEFpad and upgraded to Pro so I could save more than 16 measures. The app is unintuitive and I quickly became frustrated with it. There's no tooltips explaining what each button does and the documentation needs work. I couldn't find a reference guide that explained how to do things like change the instrument being played. Prepare for a lot of trial and error and frustration initially.

An help file is embedded. The tutorial is in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL305VYMeic There is also a file that answers about 20 common questions: https://tabledit.com/ios/TEFpadFAQ.pdf See also: https://tabledit.com/ios/overview_e.shtml. To change the sound of the instrument, use the > button in the instrument window.

Refunded. I love the desktop version but this was, hand on heart with no exaggeration, the most pathetic excuse for an app I have ever seen. Just something as simple as copying and pasting or moving between bars, scrolling up and down your sheet was a long, drawn out affair involving far far too many buttons and back and forth. Honestly whoever designed the Android version of this needs sacking, it was honestly laugh out loud bad. The worst app I have ever used, period.

I don't think you spent much time familiarizing yourself with the app and all its features before writing this comment. There are a lot of buttons because there are a lot of functions. The arrow buttons are for precise positioning. The touch screen is used to move around the score. I don't see how you can say you love TablEdit when you hate TEFpad.

For all those times you wish you had the tools to edit your midi files tracks right down to the hammer ons and bends and everything else under the sun when it comes to wanting to modify every characteristic of every single note or groups of notes, this is it. It's not easy at first Beavis, though once understood what does what and sort out how, be prepared for the onset of screaming fans like your somehow amazing all the sudden, all because of how much more dialed in your song editing became.

Thank you for this review, which is a nice change from the usual cookie-cutter reviews. It's true that TEFpad is not very easy to access, especially if you don't already know TablEdit, but the editing functions are very powerful.
