About this app

First released in 2011, Relay has been consistently developed over the past decade by the same third party developer.

Relay has been a subscription-based app since since September 2023 when Reddit introduced a monthly fee for 3rd party developers to access its API.

There are multiple price plans to choose from depending on your usage. More than 75% of Relay's users pay (USD) 1$ or 2$ dollars per month for a beautiful, ad-free experience with no trackers and a pure Frontpage made up of only the subreddits you subscribe to.

Highlights:

• Relay's design closely follows Google's 'Material You' standards giving you the same color palette as the rest of your phone, including night mode and an OLED blackout theme.
• Animations are sprinkled throughout the app and are based on physical springs which makes them much smoother then traditional Android animations.
• Links and comments load at the same time; a simple swipe switches between them.
• Comprehensive Moderator features (distinguish, sticky posts, ban users etc)
• Swipe to vote
• Rich text editor
• Advanced comment navigation - next/previous thread, find words, IAMA and more!
• Multiple accounts supported
• Subreddit and key word filtering available
• Extensive customisation options including font style and size, left-handed viewing.

Relay for reddit is a time-honored way to browse the news and entertainment of the hour. Whether you're a casual 'lurker', power user, or even a moderator, Relay's design makes reddit viewing a pleasure.

Loved the app for years... Updated design is alright but kind of broken. Day theme intermittently will have black cards for posts. Something feels off about the new layout with text and spacing. Honestly kind of miss the old classic one, now it looks a lot more like the official reddit app which I dislike... I do like how it can pull from the system theme, but wish black/dark gray was an option for the day theme in the drop down - pretty sure that was a choice previously and was what I had...

Is it just me or is this app failing more and more everyday. Now it takes ages for a video to load if ever. Yesterday was issues subs loading. The day before images wouldn't load. And yes I know how to troubleshoot to identify the root issue, it's this app. All that comes with the territory of a free app, not one with a subscription fee. Get it together gang, I like it but I won't hesitate to switch.

Excellent frontend client for reddit, definitely surpasses the official app with its sleekness and simplicity. Been my go to for years, and it's definitely worth the small API costs (for me, $2.50/mo) if you use it regularly. Felt compelled to finally write a review after the recent UI enhancements. Just gorgeous, and really brings it up to a modern aesthetic standard. Great app! Highly recommended, and my complements to the developers.
