App permissions:

Sky Map has no required permissions. Each permission below is optional — you may refuse any of them and still use the app. Nothing is requested at startup; each is asked for only when you first use the feature that needs it, and each can be withdrawn separately in your device settings.
⭐ Location (optional) — used to draw the sky for where you are. Refuse it and you can enter a place name or coordinates by hand instead. Your location never leaves your device.
⭐ Camera (optional) — used only by through-camera mode, which overlays the sky on the live camera view. Refuse it and every other mode works as normal. The image is never recorded or transmitted.
⭐ Notifications (optional) — used only to tell you about meteor-shower peaks and tonight's sky, if you ask for them. They stay off until you turn them on.

Ratings and reviews

I'm lucky enough to have dark skies whilst living in a city. This app gives me a whole new night sky to look at and its so easy to use. I can't say if the names of the stars are right or wrong, but wow, the map fits what I can see and those little dots have names (or numbers). Great app and so well done. Further more, the ability to see where the sun is at night (in relation to where I am) is a proper eye opener. I love it.

Really clever idea, well implemented. Allows you to hold your phone up in the direction of the stars, and helps identify the planets, stars, constellations and more. Probably depends on the individual phone, but it's not perfectly accurate with its placement so with using an anchor point like the moon to see how far out it is from accurate.

Brilliant when it works, enabling easy identification of many stars and planets. With my old Samsung A52, the app couldn't read the phone's compass, basically defaulting to showing me the southern sky whichever way I turned, so I only gave it 3/5. On my current phone (Samsung A55) the app's direction finding is spot-on and it makes reading the night sky so easy.
