📖 The Book of the Intelligent 📖

By Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qurashi al-Taymi al-Bakri, better known as Ibn al-Jawzi

Enjoy reading The Book of the Intelligent by Ibn al-Jawzi with the best offline book app and many other features.

The Book of the Intelligent contains many stories full of kindness, humor, and wisdom. They tell the stories of the intelligent, and present situations and stories that demonstrate the cunning of their authors. It is one of the most wonderful books preserved for us in the Islamic library.

As the heart wanders among the flowers of this book, picking from them at times leisurely and at other times hastily, Ibn al-Jawzi presents a variety of people, varying in their backgrounds and lives. He addresses princes, ministers, jurists, and judges, recording any known incidental idea, penetrating phrase, or amusing, insightful witty remarks that reveal the intelligence, cunning, and shrewdness of the person who is telling the story.

Ibn al-Jawzi built his book on thirty-three chapters, including: The Excellence of Reason, Its Nature and Place; The Mind, Understanding, and Intelligence; Signs of Intelligence; Traditions of the Intelligence of the Prophets; Traditions about the Intelligence of Previous Nations; the Prophet Muhammad, the Companions, the Caliphs, Ministers, Judges, Scholars, Ascetics, and Arabic Scholars; Using Intelligence for Purposes; Those on Whom Intelligence is Reflected; Precautions of the Intelligent; The Intelligence of Women, Children, Poets, Warriors, and the Wise Men of the Insane.

Author:
Ibn al-Jawzi, Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qurashi al-Taymi al-Bakri, was a Hanbali jurist, hadith scholar, historian, and theologian (510 AH/1116 CE - 12 Ramadan 597 AH). He was born and died in Baghdad. He enjoyed widespread fame and a prominent position in public speaking, preaching, and writing, and he excelled in many sciences and arts. His lineage goes back to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq. He was known as Ibn al-Jawzi because of a walnut tree that once grew in his house in the town of Wasit. It was also said that he was known as "Fardat al-Jawz," the port of the Basra River.

- Ibn al-Jawzi is one of my favorite imams. This is the second book of his that I have read, after *Akhbar al-Zaraf wa al-Mutamajinin*. This book is interesting and contains many stories revolving around intelligence and related aspects of cleverness and cunning. These stories range from the strange and the funny to the unbelievable, but were common in the author's time. He presents them without comment or investigation. In any case, they are among the things that people are tolerant of and enjoy hearing, regardless of their truthfulness or lack thereof. The reader will notice Ibn al-Jawzi's extensive knowledge through the abundance of stories he presents, from what he heard or read, which he divides into 33 chapters. Mohammad Alrasheed

- A good book by Imam Ibn al-Jawzi. It's like a brother to the book (Akhbar al-Hamaqa wa al-Mughfilin), except that its subject and content are completely opposite, although they share the same goal and purpose. The book is full of beautiful humor and wit, and sometimes vulgar and heavy-handed jokes. Although some of the stories in it require explanations of their vocabulary to make you laugh or at least smile, the book provides a good introduction to intelligence and reason.

- Oh, my God, the beauty of the Arabic language. Oh, how beautiful its expressions and images are, and how eloquent they are. I loved the book and all the stories it contains of intelligence, cunning, and cleverness. All of this speaks volumes about the Arabs' intelligence and quick wit during the Abbasid era. It also reveals aspects of their social lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

- This book is one of the most beautiful books I've read, discussing the stories of intelligent people. Although some of its vocabulary may be difficult for those who aren't fluent in Arabic to understand, it contains a joy I haven't found in any other book. It is capable of eliciting joy and wonder from the most closed and cold hearts. One of its many benefits is that you'll learn many ways out and situations that will certainly benefit you in your life when you face difficult situations, or at the very least, you'll be refreshed by the stories mentioned in it in any gathering you sit in. May God reward Ibn al-Jawzi with the best reward for this creative and enjoyable book.

- The book is full of wonderful anecdotes about intelligent and cunning people. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them. The book even didn't skimp on animals, mentioning some animal anecdotes that demonstrate intelligence and cleverness. This book makes you say that intelligence and quick wit are among the best blessings God has bestowed upon us. What's also beautiful about the book is that you get a glimpse, through the author's eyes, into the Abbasid era and how people thought about this. It took a while, but I didn't enjoy mentioning the chain of transmission of the hadith much, and because my Arabic wasn't up to the level needed to fully understand the book's meanings and objectives, this deprived me of some of the enjoyment. Without these two things, the book would have been complete.
