One of the most important factors in consolidating information is its memorization and recording. To protect it from being lost and to fear it being forgotten, scholars were accustomed to recording their scattered information and thoughts in a notebook, preserving them until they were needed. When Ibn al-Jawzi's thoughts wandered, browsing through things that came to his mind and then vanished, one of his top priorities was to preserve what came to mind so that it would not be forgotten. Ibn al-Jawzi saw the need to record whatever occurred to him that should not be neglected, so he made this book a record of those thoughts. He included in it sermons, wisdom, spirituality, advice, literature, and some scientific aspects not found in other books.
Ibn al-Jawzi mentions the reason for writing this book, saying: "Since thoughts wander as they browse through things that occur to them, then are ignored and disappear, it is one of the first things to preserve what comes to mind so that it is not forgotten." Therefore, this book is considered one of the best books ever written on its subject, as its author spent his entire life capturing thoughts and recording them so that they would serve as a lesson for those who consider them and so that their benefits would spread.
It is a uniquely styled religious literature that makes you feel as if you are reading a modern book, despite the passage of nine centuries since its publication. Sheikh al-Ghazali was interested in this book when he first read it and decided to edit it. He himself said of this book: "The more I continued to study its rulings and traverse its stages, the more I respected it and appreciated its author. Every opinion I reached in my many writings was preceded by this author's confirmation and supported by texts. Every ailment I denounced in Islamic society was attacked and its epidemic contained in this book before it spread."
Author:
Ibn al-Jawzi, Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Qurashi al-Taymi al-Bakri, was a Hanbali jurist, hadith scholar, historian, and theologian (510 AH/1116 AD - 12 Ramadan 597 AH). He was born and died in Baghdad. He enjoyed widespread fame and a prominent position in his oratory, preaching, and writing, and he also excelled in many sciences and arts. His lineage goes back to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq. He was known as Ibn al-Jawzi because of a walnut tree that once grew in his house in the town of Wasit. There was no other walnut tree in the town. It is also said that it was a reference to "Fardat al-Jawz," the port of the Basra River.

- A wonderful book.. Ibn al-Jawzi's thoughts that were presented to him, so he would write them down to keep them from escaping.. That's why it's called "Hunting the Thought".. If Ibn al-Jawzi had lived in the era of mobile phones and Facebook, he would have been the most adept at utilizing these capabilities to record his thoughts.

- Thoughts of a man refined by science, disciplined by experience, and elevated by expertise. You stand with every thought, one or two, or three benefits. Ibn al-Jawzi's ocean confronts you from every side, and you have no choice but to surrender to it willingly, yearning for more. I won't tell you the extent of the inspiration it instills in your heart. It's not only inspiring, but it also soothes worries.

- "Hunting the Thought" by Ibn al-Jawzi - may God have mercy on him - found the solution to fleeting thoughts by recording them at the time, lest they be lost and difficult to retrieve. I don't know what would have happened with him - may God have mercy on him - had he lived to this day - the age of mobile phones and the internet - we would have found volumes.

Few are those books that, as soon as you close them, your soul longs for them, like a friend whose time has come to depart. You accompany them to the airport to bid them farewell, yearning for them from the moment they tell you about their departure. I tried to extend the journey with Ibn al-Jawzi's thoughts, but it was impossible. Every path has an end, and with every meeting, there must come a moment of separation. Not everything a person desires is attained.

- "Hunting the Thought" is a book by Ibn al-Jawzi. He wrote it when he was writing books, and a thought occurred to him that wasn't related to the book's subject matter. He jotted it down until this book came to us. It is a great book. I believe that everything contained in it crosses the mind of every vigilant person aware of the temptations of this world.
