The procedure for conducting the competition for the National Police, Prosecutor's Office, Court, Customs, National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, and other state bodies provides for testing to assess the level of logical, analytical, abstract and verbal thinking of the candidate. A similar type of cognitive ability testing is also widely used in the private sector.
These tests cover the main groups of human skills, measure verbal-humanitarian, logical-mathematical, visual-motor abilities, as well as spatial imagination, speed of information analysis and attention. Abilities for logical judgments, numerical and symbolic representation of information and its operation, analysis and synthesis, reasoning are universally important abilities in any profession and in life in general. The success of any intellectual activity depends on the development of these abilities. General abilities, manifested in the form of universal intellectual operations (analysis, synthesis, generalization, abstraction, etc.), are formed in a person gradually as a result of the cumulative effect of experience acquired in the process of reading, relationships with people, involvement in science and culture. In other words, the participant has been preparing for this exam for many years, studying and gaining experience in various areas of life. Numerous studies have convincingly shown that individuals who score high on a general ability test achieve greater academic success than those who score low. Therefore, testing of cognitive abilities can be considered as a certain prediction of success in the future.
