The nesting location where the species exhibits the highest relative density serves as a classification criterion for the twelve primary biotopes that comprise the brooding bird species found in the Danube Delta.

In terms of their behavior, there are 132 migratory species and 44 sedentary species of brooding birds. The abundance of migratory species can be attributed to the ideal nesting and feeding conditions that deltaic biotopes offer during the warm season. This phenomenon is further corroborated by the existence of certain species that, in their entirety, inhabit different deltaic biotopes as opposed to the common ones.
